CarPC install on 96 Jeep Cherokee - Questions..
Okay, I know lots of people don't recommend installing a CarPC under the driver/passenger seats.. So, I devised a plan.. How about putting it in the center console? I was planning on doing this, using 1" risers (aluminum) to bolt the mainboard down to (no case). Build a custom lock box with air vents..
The items I SHOULD need are:
Mainboard/Proc
Ram
Hard Drive (already have 2.5" 20gb)
Monitor (7" Touch Screen - In-Dash)
Some sort of inverter??? (Suggestions????)
and the "Picto-PSU" or whatever that's called..
Is there anything I'm missing?

Have you figure out why carPC under driver/passenger seats isn't an idea? If there is space for it why NOT? And I am sure you have plenty of space on the passenger side on the Jeep.
Said NO to the following "Pico PSU". For PSU, either DSATX, Opus, M1/M2-ATX. Inverter + Home PSU is okay if you don't have the cash, but not recommended.
BTW

Thanks for the response.. I personally don't want one under there, specifically for this reason: Water.. I have had standing water in my jeep before (going through rivers/such..) PLUS, if I create some sort of box inside my center console, I won't have to fork over another $100+ for a case.
This may be a dumb question.. As I would NEVER use a home PSU in my car.. BUT, will I still need an inverter if I buy a DSATX or one of the others recommended? It seems like I wouldn't...

Installing under the seat isn't a good idea in most any install so don't feel bad about your situation.

No - you just need the DSATX, that's it. It IS your PSU.

I had a 91 Eagle talon tsi, the pc fit perfectly in the middle console (with a lot of cutting) I just used the console as the case... I also used a 400W home powersupply with a 500W inverter and it all fit in there as well, of course that was before they came out with the M2

If you search, I don't remember who, but search Jeep Grand Cherokee and it'll show you that at least two, possibly more, have installed in the center console. Mine is installed where the cd changer would go.
