tires and wheels!

Alright, well it is time for new tires on the stang, and I have decided that I absolutly MUST have new rims to go with them. These are the rims i like:

However, I am trying to decide between 18x8 and 17x8. Cost is not really the issue. I have heard two arguments against the bigger wheels - weight and possible rubbing the wheel wells. any thoughts?

acceleration wise you will not be able to tell much difference... As for rubbing, your overall diameter should not change if you size your tires properly, you will just use less rubber on the larger rims they will be effectively the same size... less sidewall (18" rims) will give you a stiffer ride but the sacrafice is you will feel every little bump that much more...

Rubbing is more a function of width rather than diameter.

As for the choice in diameter, consider your tyre choice in 18" - is there the same level of choice? We (say 3 years ago) slapped a set of 18" wheels on a WRX, and were disappointed with the choice of tyres available - it was probably cause 18"s weren't all that common back then.

Do some work in photoshop. What will the 18" wheel and tyre package look like on your car? Too big? OK? At the end of the day, it's your choice, but there can be a huge difference in that tiny little measurement.

Show us the photoshop work!!

18" tires are plenty common, If cost is not an issue go for the bigger rims & tires! You can see what different rims will look like on your car at tirerack.com...

Ahem,

Bling
Bling

Now that that's out of my system, I'd hit a mustang board as to what diameter/width combinations cause rubbing on a "stock" mustang (ie you haven't rolled the fenders). Otherwise, It's personal preference, and just to keep in mind, the larger the rim, the more unsprung weight you have to move when you launch.

Hey, when you have a car that came from the factory with 15" (GL's only got 14" ), 18" IS bling bling .
