Is worth buying a Mini Moke?
its "restored" by a group og year 11s (including me) it is currently a rust bucket but we are supposed to be removing rust, and patching it up/repainting it, replacing the clutch, cleaning it out (there is moss growing in it) the engine was supposidly just restored...... is it worth ANYTHING???? someone has offered 100bucks.....

How bad is the rust? got any pics? Mokes are pretty rare these days and if it's looked after it'll probably go up in value rather than down. All really depends how much time you've got and how good you are at welding, if the floors good your probably on to a winner.
How easy is it to get spares where you are? as you'll probably have to replace the sub frames, not hard or expensive but a good weekends work for eack of them.
It might be worth talking to a local club and get one of them to check it out.
Quick tips:
Run the engine,
Does it start form cold?
(place your hand on it before hand to see it it is actually cold, if it's warm it means that the seller has run it before hand so it starts easilly when your looking at it)
How smooth is it a tick over?
Does the engine vibrate much?
If it's go carpets take them out and have a good look underneith.
Check the sills, A pannels & bottom of the doors for rust
Does it look lowered at the front? If so the suspension cones are shot.
Try and moved the rear wheels in an out, if they move your likely to need new radious arms.
There shopuld be 12 grease points look at them to see if they been regularly greased.
Lastly have a look at www.minimania.com for more info.

Hmm... Okay.. let me put it this way.....
It doesn't start, the clutch is shot, and the battery is dead..
Half the floor is rusted through, teh radiator is rusted, the side pannels.. actually, EVERYTHING IS.. nearly..
RUST RUST RUST!!!!
The front looks lowered, but the rear has larger tyres on teh back than the front (The are pretty good tyres in alright nic) Although, one side at teh back sits about 10-15 cm higher than the other..
yeah, also, there is no OWNER, it was given to us at school to fix up.... But I can't see it being finished in 5 weeks...
A few pictures of a similar aged car, except this one has LESS rust than the one we have at school..
http://www.minitron.fi/moke_projektikuvia1.htm
Ours is red, but was white at some time in its life.....
The frool section pictured about is rusted the whole way through on "our" car...

Run away, run for the hills, don't touch it with a barge pole, even a very long one.

I wouldn't even take it for free. Most people have to pay to have a heap of junk like that taken away.

It isn't total junk, and if it is fully restored, I could probably sell it for $5000+

Yeah, you're right. You're always right. ;-)
Spend the cash you don't have on it, and sell it for a loss, not my problem. ;-)
Good luck.

1) You said the one at your school had more rust.
"Half the floor is rusted through, teh radiator is rusted, the side pannels.. actually, EVERYTHING IS.. nearly.."
2) How much did that restoration cost (don't forget to cost up your time - you may be able to make more money at MacDonalds)?
3) How much is that vehicle worth now?
The difference between 2 and 3 is your profit or loss. 1) just means that 2) will be more.
