Check Engine Light Code

I have a 98 Honda Civic DX, and my check engine light went off after I filled my gas tank. Went to mechanic, he said my code was PO135 bank 1 sensor 1. He says for me to change the 02 sensor. Just wanted to know is this emergent to do?

Any time you get codes like sensors, clear it, start the car, drive around the block, shut it off, then start it and drive again. If no codes, it was just a glitch. That might save you some $$.

No offense, if you brought it to a mechanic to get the error code looked at, you should have got it repaired at same time, a sensor is easy to replace, it should be on the exhaust manifold in front of the engine of the civic.
My 2000 civic had same problem, just a sensor to replace.

I know it's easy to replace. Couldn't get it repaired at that time, no dinero. But does it affect the performance of the car?

eventually it may screw up something depedning on how ECU dependant the car is. Bad readings so it makes bad decisions leading to bad engine.

But for someone who not only posted in the wrong section, but the wrong bloody forum you really need to tone down the attitude.

Reset the PCM, if it doesn't come back you will be fine. If it does disconnect the sensor and take a resistance reading between the two black wires on the sensor's terminal connector (the two opposite the tabs) should be 10-40 ohms.

yes, a bad O2 sensor on the exhaust manifold will cause sluggish performance, and burn more gas. Every electrical component of an engine that causes the engine light to turn on must be fixed, keep in mind that one thing may affect the others, and in some cases, one defective part on a car will cause other parts to fail. Also, if your car is about 10 years old and if a cop stops you for a routine check or whatnot, and that Engine light is on, they could send you for inspection.
