Network Bandwidth Limiter

Hi guys do you all know or came across any software so that I can manually limit folks that connect to my wireless network?I would like to setup a wireless access point at home so that I can have close neighbours connect to it.But I would like a software to control each one's bandwidth so that they won't suck all of my speed....Can anyone link me up?

That would be a function of the wireleess router or access point.

If you have a server that acts as a gateway or firewall, then this could be useful.
But on a typical home network this isn't the case.

Yes, there's "packet shaping" software out there, but it's typically cost-prohibitive for a home user, as these are designed for a large scale network, typical of a large corporation.

Also, since this has nothing to do with vehicle computing or software associated with a vehicle computer, I'm moving the thread to Off Topic.

Hi platinumsteel,

First, get a wireless router that has QoS capabilities. I like the Buffalo or Linksys routers that can run DD-WRT.

If you have DD-WRT, then you can set your QoS to prioritize by IP or MAC address, as explained http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php...f_Service]here.

Any router with QoS should be able to handle this task. Just give your IP's a higher priority than your neighbors. You should also assign static DHCP leases for your computers if you aren't assigning priority by MAC address.
