My worst nightmare come true
So I have always dreaded the day when I either lost my alarm pager or it stopped working since I only have one. And that day has finally come. It no longer outputs a signal and my car alarm is activated. So while I still have the keyes and all, I am for all practical purposes locked out of my car!
I have changed the batteries and taken the unit apart multiple times now with no luck. I also tried to get into the car to see if I could turn off the alarm with the valet swtch, but that doesn't work either. My only remaining option seems to be to pop the hood and start cutting wires or disconnecting the battery. Let me tell you though, there is nothing like being ridiculed for breaking into your own car.......

May I just say......HAHAHAHA
Really then, I'm sure the alarm is on its on fuse, just disconnect that at your fuse box in the dash, or whereever it is located.

You'd only have to disconnect the negative terminal from the battery... right?

Does it have it's own internal battery? If so disconnecting the car battery or removing the fuse will make no difference!
Also if it anything like my unit it's probably booby trapped as well, so cutting a wires will just set if off.
Probably not what you wanted to hear.
On the plus side I'm sure there's away to get around the alarm, having said that I know someone who's got 3 alarms & 2 imobilisers in there car, due to upgrading & not being able to remove the old alarm(s)
Well good luck

That is EXACTLY what I am afraid of Rob!! I know that the guy who installed the alarm put top of the line equipment in it because he was the buyer for a national audio chain. But I haven't been able to find technical specs on the alarm since it hasn't been made since the early nineties.
Oh well. I haven't heard back from the company who might be able to replace the unit either. I was hoping that the unique alarm code corresponds to the serial number or something so that it can be replaced, but that might be a bit unrealistic. If I don't get any definitive answers in the next couple of days I'll just disconnect the car battery and hope that works. If not then the unit is going to have to come out and I am guessing it won't be pretty.............

I remember a few years ago there was a 77 Camaro came to my work. Back in the days, alarms had keys for disarming just like the keys on the doors for unlocking. The keyhole for alarms were mounted on the driver fender. If you ever seen a mid to late 70's cars, you'll notice some of them have keyholes on the fenders. The keyholes are there to disarm the alarm. Anyway, this guy couldnt make up his mid and ended up with 5 different alarms and 5 keyholes on his fender. Back to how to disarming the alarm with out remote. Some alarms like Clifford G4 and CodeAlarms have failsecure starter kill. This means if the power is cut, you cant start your car. Most DEI alarms have both but factory setting is failsafe starter kill. If you cut the power, you can still start your car. You should give us the make and model of the alarm if you want more help. With the info you have given to us, all I can say is turn the key on and flick or push the valet switch for a couple of seconds. That method is what most alarms require.

Just cut the speaker/horn off. It least nobody will hassle you when the alarm goes go off.

It is an Alpine 8440 model alarm. What do you mean about flipping the valet numerous times though, I figured if it didn't work once, it wouldn't do any goo to keep playing with the switch.

I really wouldn't recermend that if it is a decent alarm, which it sounds like it is. Most of the decent ones have fail safe horns with built in batteries, cut the wires and it will just go off, until you take a hammer to it
This is to stop car thiefs from poping the hood and cutting the wires before they nick the car
Best advice it to talk to a car electronics specialist and ask them for advice and if they have (or can obtain) the installers manuals (these are very different to the users ones) and that should take you throught how to do it.
