So after an *** load of pot holes and jolts, I thought my hard drive in the carpc has suffered more than it could ever have in the two years I've had it (and still running strong! not a single issue).
Well, yesterday I learned that it can really hold up to big impacts. Got smacked in the rear by someone going 20MPH. Music didn't even skip a beat. The carpc is unfazed!
Carpc is in the trunk, hard drive is mounted vertically, straight to the case (no rubber mounts) facing forward (not side-ways). Surprisingly I'd think that the heads would have hit the platters.. nope.
My car on the other hand took the impact pretty hard. My two favorite body shops said at least $3.5k based on the visible damage. Frame is bent, quarter panels buckled in, trunk floor popped up a tiny bit.
Luckily no one is hurt and I'm not at fault.
More pictures. These show the quarter panel damage.
These strips of tape should be flat, no gap under them.
