diy usb audio with optical in / out

Hi,

recently I got hold of a schematic of a diy usb audio device with optical ins and outs.. along with hardware volume and mute switch.. I want to built this thing, only needs like 20-30 components..

My question is.. since this thing has optical out, and my home dolby receiver has optical in.. will I be able to use this with the dvd player.. ?? I already know I can set windows that a dvd/cd player uses this usb for digital audio.. but will the 5.1 or dts signal put through ?

btw signal to noise of this diy is greater than 95 dB

Thanks in advance

Greetz,

Care to post the schematic, or give us a link to it?
It would probably help in answering your question!
What driver's does it use, custom written, or borrowed from another device?

Raas, You re probbly referring to the MiniUSB Soundcard, published in 'Elektuur' that uses the PCM2902 from Burr-Brown/TI?

This device is capable of handling AC3 streams when those streams are properly encoded into S/PDIF frames. Whether or not this is the case depends on the drivers that are used.

You could search at microsoft if they handle AC3 over SPDIF and in which windows versions.

Henkbliek;
Yes!, thatīs the one.. I was just curious if it could handle it.. The article says something about running w2k or xp at least īcause older osīs couldnīt handle the extra signals.

thenominous;
The usb card uses a standard ms-driver, also a Human Interface Device will be added to the control panel, and since I havenīt built this thing I donīt know exactly.
Will see if I have the time to scan the schematic.

Greetz,
