India - Throwing Babies from a tower

Quote:
You've got see this to believe it. For the last 500 years or so, villagers have been dropping babies from the top of a 50-foot tower in Solapur, India. Devotees claim that the children don't suffer any ill effects from the fall, which ends on a white sheet. "They believe that if they throw the child from the roof then it does good to him or her,”

Bear in mind 20+ years later those babies might pay to do something like that but from a much higher height, with a little bit of elastic attached.

wtf does that mean? tell me how making a choice as an adult to go bungie jumping have to do with dropping babies onto a 4x5ft sheet? There may be a bit of elasticity in the sheet but the sudden spring up for a young child is prob enough to bruise them. I think its rather foolish and silly. I dropped my baby from 5 stories high and he now can not get AIDS?
