AIM volume control
Anyone know of a program or method of controling Instant Messanger's volume. I hate AIM sounds and turn them all off except for the first message received one...however, when I have music cranked...its quite annoying when IM is blasting as well.

use Trillian! www.trillian.cc
you may want to mess around with the volume control bar (control panel -> sounds and audio devices -> advanced)

There is no volume control for those annoying sound as they're wav, so is MP3. You probably have open the sound recorder and edit the wav file for the AIM sound and soften the sound. Another way is to change the sound all together. I changed my incoming IM sound to chimes.wav It's much easier on my ears.

Yeah I agree with Cproaudio... I opened the windows sound recorder and then opened the AIM sounds one at a time and did the "decrease volume" a couple times until it sounded reasonable. I too blast my music from the computer through an amp... so this should be what you are wanting to do. It's a lot better afterwards!

I avoid sound effects all together.. the only sounds that come from my computer are mp3s or movies
what you can do is use a second sound card so that "system" sounds go through one out put and all the other more desireable sounds come from another.. you could just have the "system" sounds going through a set of cheap computer speakers.

Does anyone know if there is a Trillian clone that works under Linux?

you could use gaim.. It's not a trillian clone, but it does basically the same thing. It has a real AIM look to it, but it'll do all the major nets I think. I only use AIM and ICQ so it served me for that.
