Any useful parts on a scanner?

Topic title says it all really. Found an old scanner on a skip the other day, was wondering what would be worth keeping from it before it returns to the skip... LOL

Current list:
Glass
Stepper motors?
PSU
Blub
Box
Lid (might make a nice dinner tray)

I can`t believe it actually powers up, but I looked on google, and you need to use the bundled card with 16bit drivers in order to get it going. One man's junk is another man gold i guess...

The white bulb it uses is a Cold Cathode light, which are quite bright and quite popular in case moding.

Thanx!... The bulb definately works, I'll just have to incorporate the scanner psu in my case as well, as i can hardly imagine the bulb running off 5v DC. I was also toying with the idea of using it to make my tft brighter, but I think that it would be pretty difficult. Do you have anymore info (link?) on how to use one of these bulbs for case modding?

Also, the case of the scanner is looking like a good case for my next carputer revision...

It runs off fractional ac amperage at like 10k volts, and you can pickup a stand alone inverter from places like bgmicro.com. Nearly any pc hardware site with a forum is bound to have cases with cathodes, but hardocp is my forum of choice when it comes to that type of stuff. pheatonforums.com also has insane stuff.

Thanx again! I had a look on those forums, and there is some amazing stuff... I'm probably gonna have a go at my own case mod when i get time... Still need to finish the carputa first.
