Bad Amp?
About a year and a half ago, a friend of mine gave me his 8" sub with a big custom box. Sounds awsome in my Jeep (no trunk). I bought a cheap amp and promptly removed the volume control daughter board and mounted it near the drivers seat (Minnesota meet guys have see it - pretty slick).
Anyway, it recently stopped working. The amp lights turn on, but no sound from the sub. I hooked a portable walkman up to the amp inputs - still no sound. Since I have no replacement sub or amp to try switching the parts out, I don't know which went out.
Is it safe to say that when subs die, they make no noise at all? I doubt it.
I hooked a voltage tester (DC, lowest setting) up to the amp outs on a loud song and it didn't budge.
Do you folks have any suggestions how I might go about testing the amp and the sub? Perhaps any methods for generating a safe test voltage for the sub?
Thanks!
