metro richmond area (but not IN richmond which is probably stricter with tint and such) but drive and park A LOT in roanoke and fredericksburg area with no problems.

In Virginia, PCs are not illegal per se, but having a TV screen - which computer monitors likely would be considered - within the view of the driver is illegal. Fortunately, there is an exception if the screen is used in connection with a navigation system. So, you are okay in VA if you use the screen with a navigation system and are not actually watching a movie.

Any aftermarket screens visible to the driver are illegal in Alberta so yes, my car PC is illegal. Shops are no longer allowed to install them in the dash and any unit that gets installed in the dash is not sold anymore. I don't think.

It doesnt get much more slack than VA. All they ever really check for in inspections is bald tires and broken bulbs.

What are talking about. I live in Va i have gotten pulled & received 4 window tint tickets. Also a ticket for my tinted taillights.

So then GPS's are illegal in Alberta?

Sorry, that should say video screen. I think that's how they worded it, I got pulled over for my screen once already. The cop asked me a pile of questions like what I use it for and ended up letting me go.

I live in Michigan, have been carPC'd for 4 years now and have been pulled over a few times and the cop has never mentioned it, or even questioned it. Streaming video is illegal on any system if the driver can see it. So to answer your questions, NO, carPC's are not illegal.

In OP's case (Michigan):

Video Screen Restriction

Law: A person shall not operate a motor vehicle that is to be used upon the highways with a television or other similar electronic device that displays a video image that can be viewed by the operator while the motor vehicle is in motion.
Statute: MCLS § 257.708b (2008)
Penalties: A civil infraction.

So just I guess don't play videos on any front seat screens while driving
