French Military History
French Military History in a Nutshell
The Complete Military History of France
- Gallic Wars - Lost. In a war whose ending foreshadows the next 2000 years of French history, France is conquered by of all things, an Italian.
- Hundred Years War - Mostly lost, saved at last by female schizophrenic who inadvertently creates The First Rule of French Warfare; "France's armies are victorious only when not led by a Frenchman."
-Italian Wars - Lost. France becomes the first and only country to ever lose two wars when fighting Italians.
- Wars of Religion - France goes 0-5-4 against the Huguenots
- Thirty Years War - France is technically not a participant, but manages to get invaded anyway. Claims a tie on the basis that eventually the other participants started ignoring her.
- War of Devolution - Tied. Frenchmen take to wearing red flowerpots as chapeaux.
-The Dutch War - Tied
-War of the Augsburg League/King William's War/French and Indian War Lost, but claimed as a tie. Three ties in a row induces deluded Frogophiles the world over to label the period as the height of French military power.
-War of the Spanish Succession - Lost. The War also gave the French their first taste of a Marlborough, which they have loved every since.
- American Revolution - In a move that will become quite familiar to future Americans, France claims a win even though the English colonists saw far more action. This is later known as "de Gaulle Syndrome", and leads to the Second Rule of French Warfare; "France only wins when America does most of the fighting."
- French Revolution - Won, primarily due the fact that the opponent was also French.
- The Napoleonic Wars - Lost. Temporary victories (remember the First Rule!) due to leadership of a Corsican, who ended up being no match for a British footwear designer.
- The Franco-Prussian War - Lost. Germany first plays the role of drunk Frat boy to France's ugly girl home alone on a Saturday night.
- World War I - Tied and on the way to losing, France is saved by the United States. Thousands of French women find out what it's like to not only sleep with a winner, but one who doesn't call her "Fraulein." Sadly, widespread use of condoms by American forces forestalls any improvement in the French bloodline.
-World War II - Lost. Conquered French liberated by the United States and Britain just as they finish learning the Horst Wessel Song.
- War in Indochina - Lost. French forces plead sickness, take to bed with the Dien Bien Flu
- Algerian Rebellion - Lost. Loss marks the first defeat of a western army by a Non-Turkic Muslim force since the Crusades, and produces the First Rule of Muslim Warfare; "We can always beat the French." This rule is identical to the First Rules of the Italians, Russians, Germans, English, Dutch, Spanish, Vietnamese and Esquimaux.
- War on Terrorism - France, keeping in mind its recent history, surrenders to Germans and Muslims just to be safe. Attempts to surrender to Vietnamese ambassador fail after he takes refuge in a McDonald's.
The question for any country silly enough to count on the French should not be "Can we count on the French?" but rather "How long until France collapses?" "Going to war without France is like going deer hunting without an accordion. All you do is leave behind a lot of noisy baggage."

I agree with smashr2k. Sorry if I offend anyone but the French are a bunch of useless assholes. If we didnt save them they would be speaking german right now. If we didnt rebuild them they would still be poor. We send them a hell of alot of money to rebuild after they go and lose their wars and they cant even support us when we need to go to war. We dont even need their help. The navy seals and royal marines will rip apart iraq.
Just my 2 cents.

Damn felix. I know my history well enough. Its my opinion. So back off. How about I say the french UN members are assholes. We have done soo much more for them then they have done for us. American revolution, ok, thats it. We helped them in WWI and II. And we helped them rebuild after being crushed many a time. Everyone in france is arrogant. They do what they want until they get crushed and then they beg us to help them out. If we do what france wants now, I think it wont just be their *** this time, but the whole worlds ***.
Just my opinion.

As you tell Felix to back off, ´cause it´s your opinion, you should also back off and respect Felix´opinion.
As for calling the french arrogant, same goes for the americans..... They want saddam out of iraq, no matter what... The UN doesn´t agree (at least at this time) yet, so who´s arrogant ???
Sure america is ´super-power´ off the world, but do they rule the whole globe ?? off course not....
To me this is just some ´stupid´ family thing... Daddy Bush started something with the gulf-war I, and his son thinks he has to finish it... nothing more or less....
My opinion (and you should respect that murph) is that America should stick more to themselves than to the rest off the world..... If it would put the money they´re now going to put in the war (talking about more than 140 billion $!!! for the next 5 years) in their own economy you were better off....
I think (and I´m aware I get flamed for this) that if saddam would be left alone, you would hardly notice it.... Sure he´s cruel to his people, but there are enough dictators that are, and they are being left alone.... just ´cause iraq has a whole bunch of oil, america thinks it just have to get that oil..... (eg... look at Cuba for a moment... Fidel reigns that country for over 30 years now... America couldn´t do anything about it, ´cause russia was still a super-power then.... and now.. more than 10 years ago russia collapsed, and Fidel is still in place.... America did nothing against it... why not ? Because they don´t have oil... Same goes for Haiti... also dictator, but no ´wealth´ so America just leaves it alone.... )
Ok. maybe I´m a little exagerating (spel...sorry.. just got out off bed, early, and had to say something) here, but same goes for you.... Just trying to point out here that the public opinion here in Europe isn´t the same as on the other side of the atalantic.
Greetz,

America is the land of free speech and democracy. Do the right thing and respect that other people's opinions may differ from your own. By all means have your own opinions, but be decent enough to be tactful and considerate.
