Oh UPS, why do you hate me so?!

Brown sucks. At least 1/10 packages I get from UPS are delivered with either a tire track on it, a huge black skid mark that rips off a corner of the box (double walled stapled seamed type heavy duty boxes), or with visible water damage. When it is delivered, it is probably 1/10 times they actually ring the doorbell or knock. Usually they just drop it on the porch and leave no matter how valuable it is (like my laptop where the box clearly says what it is, luckily it is a good neighbourhood) or how light it is (like a 1.2lb box the size of a few DVDs they left on the porch where we quite frequently get 80mph to 120mph winds since we are on the side of a mountain).

But yesterday I got a tracking update that really made me laugh out loud, literally. Package is shipped 30/09/09 from California. Scheduled to arrive 05/10/09. So Monday rolls around and I see it is "Out for Delivery". Great I thought. Nobody even after 6.30pm. So I come back around 9.30pm and still no box. Check the status and it is apparently still out being delivered somewhere.

Wake up the next morning to find that my box is now in Montana. WTF? Of course Montana is the next logical destination for a box traveling between California and Colorado when it had previously arrived in the delivering city. That's quite the detour. Also brings up the lies in UPS's tracking system. There is no way in hell it was out for delivery when it showed up in Montana at 6am the next morning unless it somehow wandered onto the airmail and the UPS driver just conveniently forgot to deliver my package (which frankly wouldnt surprise me).

At least I never have these problems with FedEx. I guess all areas have good one or the other, but rarely do both FedEx and UPS have fans in the same delivery zone. So FedEx wins in the southern Colorado area for sure. (And cheaper too magically).

Stupid UPS...

You mean WAAAAYYY out for delivery. I don't know how they made two errors on the CO end - first, it was....ummm out for delivery in CO, then it was mistakenly routed to Montana.

I suspect UPS has some kind of 'predictive' tracking system that ASSumes it is out for delivery when it hits the local facility. Obviously, your package didn't get loaded on the delivery truck.

My friend had a snowboarding DVD delivered by them but after weeks and weeks it never arrived. So 3 weeks after the supposed delivery date after the snow had melted a little, he found it half sticking out of the snow under the mailbox. The cardboard case was all wavy from the water damage but the DVD worked.
