Umm... Powergrab lets you download all messages and attachments, it's kinda handy. Netscape (While a POS.. Mozilla is better) can do it, make sure you have all the stuff set up

as for the program, i used netscape for mail/news when i was back in school, and i know it worked then. but i cant get onto the school mail/news server, so i need a new server address.

I like XNews. There are lots of news server that you can pay for, but it is way too expensive. Something like $30 a month for 5GB transfer. Rediculous.

just got comcast... got NO info at all when i got it installed. i even asked the dude if i was supposed to get something besides the service reciept. he said nothing else. that was a ***** to set up without knowing the account activation address. i swear, the difference between comcast and the old att@home service... night and day. i wish they would give me some info... never had a problem with @home. sigh

rant over.

please check and see what you have for your mail server, when you have a chance. it would be greatly appreciated.

Your E-Mail address: ID@comcast.net
News Groups: netnews.comcast.net
Port settings when on the Network: POP port 110 and SMTP port 25
SSL(Port settings when traveling): POP port 995 and SMTP port 465

all info was found here http://online.comcast.net/faqs/faq-d...CategoryID=158

Humm, I never got that info either, but my friend gave it to me.. netnews.comcast.net is it alright. I have been with @Home, ATTBi, and now Comcast, and Comcast is the worse - Support, speed, line uptime, support.. Did I mention the ******* Indians (Nothing against the people, really) that answer the tech support calls? I CANT UNDERSTAND THEM! Or was that Dell? Or both!? AGHHH! I have spent a lot of time on tech support lately..

alright... got it all figured out.

comcast has an UBER hidden signup for free newsgroup access. you have to basically register to use the newsgroup feature. it is located in the accout management tab on the comcast.net user page (if u have comcast)

im using forte agent 1.93 for my client. i tried using outlook, as they claimed only outlook would work, and it is a complete piece of crap. you cant download more than 300 headers at a time. bah. i figure i'll switch to that xnews prog after the forte agent eval period runs out.

thanks for the help

you don't hve to use the giganews comcast.... just save that for fills since it has such great retension but limited bandwidth. you can use comcast main news server which is "netnews.comcast.net" it has about 24-36hr retension and I can always max out my downstream (1.8mbit)
