Ideally it would be best to have my original birth certificate as proof of citizenship, but I don’t think my parents can get their act together and mail it to me (from across the country in Maryland) to me before I want to leave.
every time i have gone into canada, all that is asked at the border is where if you are a citizen of the US, where you are specifically from, what you are planning on doing, and if you have brought any guns, weapons, alcohol, and some other things.
it is very easy to cross the border with little hassle. i didnt even have to show an ID. just be courteous, and DO NOT do anything funny, make jokes, say anything off-color. border gaurds are very easy to set off, and they have no problem making you go in for a strip search or full vehicle search.
if you play by the rules, you should have no problems. i dont even think i brought any id other than my drivers license. if you are bringing anything into the country, be sure you declare it... the duty is cheap compared to the fines.
