Strange LED license plate cover
The other evening and I was stuck in traffic, and I noticed the car (a camaro) in front of me had this awsome license plate cover. The bottom of it was scrolling a message in bright red LED's, I forget exactly what the message was, (it was something about eating up imports) but anyways I was astounded to see such a cool product.
Anyone ever heard of this? And if so do you know where they can be purchased? Perhaps they can be interfaced to the computer to display some other kind of information.

Yes. I have. The ones I have seen, the message can be changed. I can't remember where I saw one. I'll dig a search in a bit.

That's for bikes. I saw the ones for cars somewhere.

Any of you guys have a CRX? That square window in the back would be the perfect place to put an LED sign. Most can be hooked up to the serial port. You could push a button on your carPC and leave a message to the drivers behind you
If anyone is actually interested in doing this, I have written a Perl modulefor the BETABrite and other Alpha/Adaptive protocol signs that works in Win32 and Linux.
The catch is that the signs are still on the order of 150 bucks or so, but at least they are a lot bigger than the ones for your license plate...

No. I don't think so. According to US DOT, you can have lights at the back of the car as long as they are amber to red and not blue. Same thing for the front as long as they are amber to white and not red or blue.

You mean, like, design and build your own?
OK, I'll agree to buy one of them if someone else buys the other 19

not just covers, frames too if they cover the name of the state or the top edge.
