revolutionary wing
i was thinking about what kind of downforce i want on my car to get enough to improve handleing, but not to much to take away to much from speed, and then it hit my, why not add some actuators to your wing so you can adjust it from in your car? i dont know if this has been done before but i think i will give it a try. i am going with the spoiler shown in this pic http://www.andysautosport.com/volksw...s/94jettar.jpg and am planning to putt all components inside the spoiler so you cant even tell if it is powered. what do you guys think?

I don't think you have to worry about spoiler in a Jetta, unless you want the ricer look.

If you're driving it on the street theres no point to having a wing. you'd be going to slow. You would just look like an idiot.

there are several car manufacturers that make wings which are functional at highway speeds. they give downforce which adds grip. your top speed will not change drastically as you have a jetta.
the subaru wrx sti and the mitsu evo are both good examples of this.
as for this being on some porsches... well kinda. all modern porsches have wings that emerge at a certain speed, and then return to a flush postion after you slow down again. they also are manually switch controlled i think.

Can someone/anyone show me the formula to show the downforce and change? I really don't think that a wing will do enough to justify the ghayness of the ricer look

Hmm, Although I would never actually buy a wing like that, nor would it actually serve any purpose. I bet there would be a large market for an item like that! Those Fast and Furiouser people (Or as I call them, Slightly quick and perturbed) would love it! Perhaps you should create one and market it!?

The 2000 Cobra R wing creates 30lbs of down-force at 160mph. The only way a jetta would get there would be to throw it out of a plane at 32,000 feet. No offense, I think Jetta's are pretty slick.

I think we need to test that for the sole sake of throwing a car out of an airplane.

Not sure or not, but is the jetta even RWD? Assuming it is FWD, putting downforce over the rear wheels is the last thing you want to do...

wow... where to start on this..
1. a jetta is not rwd or awd. the sti and the evolution are awd. that is why they have wings.
2. a wing on a fwd car will force the REAR down not the front. this would effectively DECREASE the downforce on the front wheels... the wheels that drive the car.
3. touring wings only add a significant amount of downforce after your speeds gets to about 80-100 mph.
4. if you want to increase handling. stiffen your car. strut tower braces or the likes.
5. wings look frickin rediculous (spelling?) on any car that doesnt have a legitimate reason for one.
6. blindly adjusting the wing will not give you the flexibility that you want. extensive wind tunnel testing and HIGH speed test runs under controlled conditions are the only way to tune a wing. half assing it by speeding along the highway and adjusting the wing isnt going to get you anywhere, but in an accident.
Bah...

Why in the freaking world people want to put Boeing made wing on the FWD car?
The purpose of the wing/spoiler is to put the downforce on the driving wheels which is on RWD car like these Ferraris, Lambo, Porches, Vett, Supra, 300Z, 3000GT, Viber or 4WD like Mittsu Evo and Subaru WRX.
Is it because most Civic has those wing and you want one as well?
RICE, RICE baby ...
