I would rather get one nice amp that will do everything in one... I am trying to have the smallest footprint so i can mount it all un the ceiling of my trunk.

Also I have been told soundstream is one of the best out there...

For now I am going to try and use my existing speakers to save money. Once I have everything setup I will replace my mids and tweaters on the doors. Then I will get 2 x 10" and make custom boxes to go just behind my rear wheel wells. I will probobly make the boxes out of 1/2" acrylic

id be happy to give you some pointers if thats the track you wanna do
oh and if you remove the monsoon amp
the headunit wont work with anything else

Actually, you can run a different amp with the stock monsoon HU. I have done it in friends car. Although, soon after we replaced the HU with a aftermarket one.

The limiting factor in the monsoon system is the stock HU, the amp and speakers sound great.

Although, for your carputer setup w/o the headunit that leaves you having to have to remove the monsoon amp. The other way around that is to drive the monsoon amp input with speaker level outputs from a carputer soundcard.... I have tried that, and it seemed to work fine.

Just curious, by running new wires, how did that solve the issue of a crossover between the tweeker and woofer components?

I am planning on getting new speakers also, the tweater and 6.5" mid are bundled together and I am pretty sure the tweater connects to the other speaker and the 6.5" goes to the amp...

If you dont want new speakers one of my friend talked about just limiting how much power gets to the speaker w/ using resistors or something... not 100% sure

what that black box is ,, is a crossover sorta amp. Its not really even an amp. What Id like to do one day is get an amp small enough (still powerful) and slide it in the and reconnect all the speakers to it.

Yes, but I wanted to know how you connected the 8 speakers in the car to the four channel amplifier you purchased/ are using. There are 4 woofers / 4 tweeters in your cars, all indiviudually wired back to the monsoon amplifier. For optimal sound quality / protection of the speakers the tweater andwoofer wires cannot just be connected together...

Yeah, there have been several attempts to hack this, as seen on these forums somewhere. There was a German (?) guy who managed to re-house the unit in a shielded metal box too
