Never Buy Dell

When it comes to buying a new computer, price it with a comparable HP, Compaq, or Averatec, and see how much more a DELL costs. What a RIP OFF, same configured Dell costs me 24 to 30% more. So price it and compare, dont just buy a DELL.

HP service is EXCELLENT, better than DELL, im very happy with HP's service, OUTSTANDING, my drived didnt work, and they will replace it free with no shipping costs to me, as for DELL, I was charged for shipping!!!

DELL is such a RIP OFF!!!

Actually, any computer from HP, Compaq, Dell, etc is ALWAYS a rip off. Always much cheaper to build the computer from parts YOURSELF. you will be paying for the support, assembly and brandname. You can equally bash them all on their service and systems.

Umm, you should not be charged with Dell for shipping. I know at least as a business customer you are not. I work with our company's IS with over 2,500 Dell desktops and laptops, and then over 25 tablet PCs and 125 HP/Compaq equipment, and do plenty of part exchanges. Never paid for any shipping ever for part exchanges.

I used to work for Gateway and Dell as a tech support rep. The only difference I can tell you is that Dell makes sure systems are compatable with their own parts. For example, the soundscards in their systems may be different than retail, because of a common issue, it was changed and produced and their specs. Warranty is another issue. W/ Gateway, if you have a hardware issue and something has to be replaced, they send u the hardware, then someone calls, verifys an appointment to install it for you, and then its up to you to send back the part. W/ Dell, they send the hardware to a tech, he comes out and installs it, verifys it works, and they send it back to Dell. Dells customer service is MUCH better than HP, I know, cause HPs tech support is about 90% outsourced. Dells is close to 30%.

I hear that HP uses used parts to rebuild systems etc. Dell's may be a little bit more pricey, but you get what you pay for, been 3 years strong, and no problems at all, besides the ones I create ( downloading music.. to damn much ).

I can't complain about Dell. My parents have a Dell, and that computer has worked pretty much flawlessly. More then I can say for their last computer which was a Compaq (HP). It had plenty of problems and the tech support wasn't the best, although the issues with the computer were finally resolved.

At my previous work, we had a lab of 30 Dells that middle school students used regularly. I can say, from the abuse that kids tend to put machines thru, the Dells held up and are holding up exceptionally well with very few failures and/or need for tech support and replacment parts.

About two years ago, I built my first computer and I really have to agree. That is the best option. You know what you're getting. You know it's done right. You don't have to wait for tech support (just for your own laziness to fix things). Plus the price, although some Dells dip pretty cheap sometimes.

Dell does not charge shipping when replacing warrantied items. My dad's speakers gave out and they sent him new ones for free, no shipping. They didn't even ask for the old ones either.

This thread is a classic case of one person declaring their experiences to be the "only" experiences. Cmon. Dell is not on top for nothing. Their systems are fine, their support is excellent, and the extra expense (as opposed to building your own) is highly justified for some people (those who don't have a clue - nor the interest to learn - how to build their own system)

Yes a friend of mine got ****ed at his Dell laptop, punched the keyboard (like an idiot), and broke it. He called Dell, said it stopped working, and they sent him a replacement no questions asked. I have found some incredible deals at DellSB you just have to shop around and be an intelligent consumer.

dell always builds their computers with parts they KNOW work with each other. HP, and especially Compaq, and other companies just put anything together which cause failures eventually. i have owned at least 3 of each brand [only two compaqs], and only my dells continue to work to this day. [i actually gave my dells to other ppl, and gutted the others]

At my work all our new wkstns and servers are dell.

I have only good things to say about dell. Whenever anything goes wrong i get 4 hour response time on the servers and 24 hour response time on our workstations.

They run and they work and they are expandable unlike most compaq and hps....they suck so bad. I guess the original poster just got straight shot down.

I just got a new dell laptop (really small slim kind...forget model name/number) i love it, its my second dell laptop and 3rd dell computer total...i used to buy gateway, but they have gone down the *****ter in my opinion. Dell service and support has never been a problem, if you get someone from india just be pacient with them and you'll get it figured out, or just dont need to call them and know how to fix it yourself ....the only time that i have ever called is when some type of hardware breaks...and they have been quick to replace those things.

I prefer to build my own desktops, but I purchased an Inspiron laptop back in the fall and it's still running good. Plus while shopping around (YES I SHOPPED!) Dell not only had the same price for a system with the SAME SPECS (something people tend to ignore when complaining about prices) but 95% of the hardware also works with linux. The only thing that didn't was the internal 802.11g, but I believe someone has created a workaround for that.

Infact I use this laptop for my recording studio without any problems.

The hospital I work in is full of Dells aswell. Replacing old Compaqs.

Dell tends to cost more because IT IS BETTER QUALITY!

The only way you can go even better is to build your own.
