They looked like they were 18 but could have been younger. One of them tried to say that he didnt speak english, the cop just said, "Dont play that **** with me, you know damn well what im saying." The cops found my stuff in the woods in the back of my apartment. Im really glad I didnt have my monitor in there too. As it is right now, I just have to replace my motherboard, headunit, and window, and the case of course. Still, not exactly cheap but couldnt have been alot worse. They broke into two other cars beside mine. What really sucks is tha I was in the process of installing a motion activated camera outside my window. Just had a long weekend and didnt have the chance to set it up.

I had a HU stolen, and the police did'nt even come out, they took the report over the phone. Now thats bad enough, but when I told them how much the HU cost they ($550.00), they said, oh anything over $500.00 is grand thieft, but like I said they did'nt bother come out, finger print my car or anything. I even told them that I had washed it the day before (perfect for finger printing). I guess they were to busy catching the real law breakers (the one's with money), you know the speeders and illegal parkers.

I had a Number plate stolen (just a normal one) over the weekend from one of my cars. Likely to be cloned for road tax evasion, or running off with petrol.
Phoned the police, they logged it incase anything happens, they said the incident unit will be in touch, probably by post, with a crime number incase I wan't to claim against my insurance. For a number plate. Jesus, my insurance is stupidly high enough (near £500 for the Celica) without making claims for a number plate. If I'm going to claim, it will be for something I can't afford to replace out of my own pocket (and that probably includes the whole car if nobody else is damaged).

There you go. Yeah. The cops up here in Oak Creek, wisconsin are real decent. Always fair. I just finished replacing the window. But the faceplate is gone for sure. And he came back this morning to tell me that their in the process of matching their prints to the stuff the recovered. And to return my neighbors radio. So hopefully ill get some money out of their ***. Personally, id like a few minutes alone with them. Id take that over the money.

thats awesome that they got caught. How would that work for reimbursement. Can they be fined or sued? Perhaps, you could go through your insurance company, and let them do the collections on the kids.
You're also really lucky that you're monitor wasn't in there. I know thats my most expensive (and sensitive) part.
Where was the computer, in your trunk?

I've had my car vandalized on 4 panels by a jealous ex bf of a girl i was dating. I knew who it was cause I had *never* been up there before to the gf's parents house and he knew where that was. it was a class E felony (over $500, was actually $2500 in damages) but reduced to class A misdemenor, 1 year order of protection, restititution, and 100 hours community service.
usually this is how it works:
- police write up report and collect evidence (unluckly, it RAINED while they were doing the report and could not collect fingerprints)
- intergate the suspects and collect statements
- arrain the individuals in court for charges (insurance representative present)
- another trial to set charges & restitituion (insurance representative present)
basically insurance did an estimate, and paid for all damages, then added them to restitution to be paid.
however, computer equipment is not covered under any standard car insurance policies I know of. you may want to collect the receipts or what you paid for your computer and other stuff to give to the police/detectives to add to the restitution.

Well, you are not alone. My car got broken in twice in a month. First it was the rear window and they took the subwoofer but they didn't know the carputer exist. And three weeks later they broke into my driver side window and took my whole ******* dashboard and monitor and damage the console unit. Well, even though the alarm went off, nothing happen. so yesterday, i had my new alarm installed. The best thing about this alarm is viper 790vx alarm is that it tell you when someone broke into your car from a block or two distance away. Hopefully, i'll save enough money for my carputer again. By the way, this alarm cost a lot $$$. You pay for what you get.

Yea alarms are nice but they don't help. I have the Matrix 2 way, like that Viper. I looked at it saw glass broke sensor and trunk open alerts going off. Looked outside my window and saw two people in my car. This is at 4 in the afternoon, ouside my office 5 days ago. My friends called 911 and I bolted down from the 10th floor out to my car. By the time I was there they had my face, and my subs out of my trunk. by HU was Fkd up. and my dash was all bent to **** around the HU. Its great to have a nice alarm, but it still wont stop the smash and grabs.. I am getting my windows tinted to 5% in two days. Can't see out, cant see in..

At least cops over there take prints - sounds pretty routine. I've had my car broken into/damaged several times over the years and my place broken into, but cops here don't have a ******* clue - the whole force is stuck in the dark ages. I mean ****, police here still get blown away by armed criminals

Man, that's just sad... I hate thieves. It seems the only type of alarm that would work is one that physically harms the thieves (ie, high voltage electrical shock )
