have a FL driver license, just got a Louisiana speeding ticket, any ways to crack it?

hello fellow mp3car members

I recently drove from Tampa, FL to San Antonio, TX and while returning back, I got a speeding ticket in the town of Iowa, Louisiana. I was driving at 80ish and the cop gave me a ticket for 84mph(Radar) in the 70mph zone.

are there any resources or ways to avoid this speeding ticket. generally, on the back of the ticket it says that they will issue an arrest warrant for a person "who is a resident of that state". what might happen if i dont pay the ticket, since i am a resident of florida. and never drive through that state again?

also, if i pay/do not pay the fine, that incident will stay on my record forever?

and, one more thing, if i move to another state (say, VA or CA) and had to
change my driver's license to that state, then will the local dmv reject my
application because of this ticket?

any information will be appreciated.

I know most states are linking up their records. Like in the 80's truckers would have 6-7 licenses to use for speeding. Now I believe the states are all linked up so if you get a ticket in another state when you go to re-new your FL license they will probably see a outstanding ticket and maybe a warrent for you. I know they do that for truckers.. as for the everyday joe I'm not 100% sure.

Your license may not be effected, but your insurance might. A lot of states now report all moving violations directly to major insurance providers, so the infraction does not have to happen in your home state for you to be the lucky receipiant of higher premiums. Like hijinks said, more and more states are opting to use a central database to report out of state citations. A friend of mine got slammed in Ohio for speeding (state oinker got her on 75), and not only had to pay the fine on the spot because she is from MI, but her insurance went up about 2 months later. I remember the guy who used to own the house next door to me was an OTR trucker, and no BS, he had 14 different licenses! carried 3 log books too. Time really is money to a trucker. 10-4 good buddy!

so, what if i go to another state and get that license and forget my FL license forever??

can a regular joe have many licenses or only truckers can have many licenses?

you are allowed to h ave as many as you want.. but the issue is they can easily find you based on your social security number i'd guess.. thats how come truckers can do it anymore. My dad use to go down to the orlando area when it was getting built up to run gravel and he had 12 differend IDs just to make a trip up and back in case he got pulled over.. but most states along the major trucking routes are all linked up now.

All states that I know of require you to be resident of the state to obtain a license.

All tickets in states that have signed the compact will transfer, which includes almost all states:

Don't even think of not paying the ticket, it will cost you more in the long run in additional fines. They probably won't hunt you down, but the next time you get pulled over or have to apply for anything through the government, regardless of the state, there will be severe reprocussions.

The one good thing about an out of state ticket is that points usually don't transfer between states, so you probably won't lose your license from accumulated points from out of state violations. However, the bad thing is the insurance company operates on a different point system and will usually jack up your rate regardless of where your ticket comes from.

Not true. When you go to the DMV, or in MI the Secretary of State, you are required by law to surrender any licenses issued by other states if you are applying for a MI driver's License. Possesion of 2 or more Licenses is a misdomenor, and can get you 90 days. Yes, residency is required for MI to issue a DL to you. Back in the good ol non-computer days, it would take weeks or even months before a state could verify if information a person submitted for a license is correct. Plus, back then, a P.O. box could be used, such was the case with my trucker neighbor.

Call the DA's office, tell them you can't afford to have it on your insurance.
Ask them to move it to a non-moving violation. Pay the fine.

That way you just are out some money and will have no trouble with the law.

What are you worried about? All of those southern hick states have low fines. Pay it and move on. It will not show up on your insurance unless FL has an agreement with them which is unlikely.

What do you mean by "low fines?" Please give your definition of a high fine. and by the way, I'd rather live in a hick state than a prick state.

Here in TX that'd be about a $250 ticket
