Just got a new desk and it's HUGE.
SamsClub.com has them shipped for $437.00,
Well I was at my local one and they had them for $376.00 with the Bestar Conference Table - $93.00 value - included.
I decided to get it. It's freaking heavy duty. That also means it weighs a ton! Make sure you've got some strong people to help carry it in. Putting it together isn't too hard. I got the base together last night. Gonna spin it around in my room and put the hutch on. Fun fun fun! It's heavy duty.
I'll get a pic of it up once I get it situated. If anyone is looking for a good work/play desk with LOTS of surface area... I would suggest this one. I looked around quite a bit to find one that would not collapse if I put my ~3 lb. LCD in the middle of it. Standard price I found for comparable is 400-700+ (and that's without the extra "conference table")

Corner desks are teh ***** I've got a huge one with 2 monitors, from Best Buy. Unfortunatly, its not that studry, my 21" sony makes a big depression, and I had to use 2 of my 13 computers with books to support it just in case

Build one!!! I build a corner desk. I'll clean my room and get some pics, then you'll see my lack of carpentry skills.

^^^ Heheh... yeah... that'd be the trick. If I had the time and my other car out of the garage... I might be able to do most of it. Other than the drawers.
This one is great. 1" desktop, rather than the 1/2" little $40 desk I got when I moved into my first apartment it was only 30" wide. It was good for putting a monitor on but not much else.
I have room for my 19" TV, 15" LCD (hoping to change to dual 17" LCD soon...) and there is still a spot for my work laptop whenever they get around to getting me one.
I have to get the hutch done tonight. Only had time for the drawers after the b-day party I went to.

I've currently got a load of chrome shelving in my room holding my computers etc at the moment.
When we move, hopefully I'm going to take over the spare bedroom, build a nice corner desk, and stack it up with all my goodies Also will make sure it's nearish to the car, so that I get the best signal strength to the carputer!!

Yeah, that desk looks a little too suspiciously professional. Good lord man! I thought you were a hacker!
Kidding aside, that desk looks really nice, but I personally dislike those hutch cabinets. They get in the way of things, and prevent any serious use of a projector... hehehehe

Now all you need is a HUGE computer to go with it...
That's the Orion DS-96 deskside cluster workstation. 96 processors, 300 Gflops, 192 gigs of RAM, and 9.6 terabytes of disk storage.
cool.

^^^ Drool... I wouldn't know what to do with myself. As it is, I have a full tower I use. Was going to build a 15" cube but I think I'm straying away from that towards a new case I saw.
Yeah, the desk is pretty professional looking. I needed something big and sturdy and it's all I could find for the price. No more cinderblock and 2x4 desks for me
As for hutches vs projectors. I'd have to knock out the wall to my roomate's room and mount it there. The room is small as it is (you'll see in the pics, hopefully tonight). A projector would just be overkill (although, I'd love to get one in the future).

I totally got your back there! I used to have a big monitor off to the side, and the center of the desk, where the center monitor goes, was wide open so the projector above and behind me would be unobstructed on the wall on the other side of the room. After I moved, my room got much smaller, so the projector had to be taken down..
As it is, I ended up selling the projector, and will likely do the same with my array of PCs, since my next move will be offshore to a boat, and I won't have a power generation system large enough to keep all of those things powered alongside a satellite internet and full nav suite. However, I think I could manage a biggie laptop or two!

Well if you're headed off to sea, hook me up with some stuff. I'll keep your stuff running and might even clean out the dust bunnies every once and a while.

Amen! The thing is, most of the array will be horribly outdated and useless to anyone but a Unix junkie, since about 8 of them are stacked Dell Optiplex GXa's setup in a Beowulf cluster. SASAMI, KURUMI and SHINOBU are the power systems at the core, and when the time comes, will probably be pretty much current-day tech (I'm always upgrading SASAMI and playing the hand-me-down game with the others).
I'll post up here when the time comes, but it likely won't happen for a year or two.
