Dell Support Rant.....

So I have to rant on this, I think this just makes you wonder about computer companies.

I have a Dell Inspiron 8200 2.4gz P4M 512mb DDR 64mb M9000 60gb hd. Since January 1st I've had the motherboard replaced 5 times, 10 sticks of memory sent out, 3 processors + heat sinks/fans, 1 LCD, and 1 m9000 sent out. They never believed that the over heating issue was a defect, the parts just kept going bad they said. Well I finally got them convinced to send me a replacement laptop, but the replacement laptop is a full 1.0ghz SLOWER!!

There is NO way I am accepting that, I wonder how much I could get for that thing? Maybe I'll just sell it and buy a mac or something. God that sucks!!

no, call them and the 1st tech u talk to, demand a manager. I used to do tech support for Dell, and thats what Id suggest you do. If they cant do anything, tell them u want to talk to their manager, and keep going up the chain until its replaced.

When it comes to portable, unless you wanna splurge on a nice (yet albeit mostly TINY) VAIO, then you really need to get an apple.

NOT a shameless plug, i see it this way.

PCs are mostly cheeper than apple because of a parts flooded marketplace, anyone can make a Mobo and a sound card and a blah blah blah, Apple only lets Apple "branded?" stuff into their machines so in essence its quality control in a way.

When it comes to laptops an Apple will hold up alot better of time, you can beat the living **** out of a PB and itll keep coming back, and iBooks are even more "rugged". Ya so its an apple and it may look GAY to your eyes, but gimme break when companies like IBM or HP put DESKTOP processors in a laptop so it has a GIGANTIC heat sink inside of it and it weighs 8+ lbs.

If you want a laptop that wont break, no guarantees of course, and will last alot longer and at least not crash so much, get an Apple.

Yeap, I know that line! I've been one of the main support peopole that deals with Dell here at the University I work for so I always demand managers. Funny thing this was all done through a manager, I thought he would have communicated with me on the system a little more before they waste their money sending me out something I won't accept

I got the souriest lemon you could EVER get I think. Too bad Dell never believed me, they always were like it's because you are running Linux and not WinXP Home like we shipped it with, or some other lame *** excuse.

Dell = Lemon

What do you think when you get a portable for under $1000?

Laptops dont cost that little, if they do you get what you pay for.

IMO you buy a dell, you deserve the headaches they give. Just like that annoying kid in the commercials did.

Am I wrong in assuming that a laptop with the same specs of a desktop costs 1.25x more (or so) than the desktop?

I've owned 4 Dell laptops in the past 5 years. This has been the worse one for me. The others were my abuse

However, a lot of the new Dell laptops that we are getting in at work (we are in bed with Dell pretty tightly for deals) have been having a lot of issues with ethernics frying and motherboards failing in other ways. I probably won't buy another Dell laptop anymore, they used to be solid machines, but now they are just a pile o' crap.

I sent them the specs of the machine that I would accept as a replacement, so we'll see. I might just end up selling whatever they give me and buy a Mac or and LCD tv, I don't really need the laptop, I have a 3.0ghz P4 HT with 1gb DDR sitting at my house doing nothing more than being a TV

I spent 4 years living in a frat house where everyone had dell laptops, because that's what the school recommended. I had a Toshiba laptop and a homebuilt desktop.

I have only seen 1 Dell laptop that hadnt had something major replaced within 18 months. The Dell fanboys (for lack of a better term) would always say something to the effect of "yeah well they sent someone out here to fix it because they gave me a great warranty."

You know why they have such a great warranty? Because they farking need it. I have owned 3 Toshiba laptops in the last 8 years, and the only problem I have ever had was a power brick (not the internal power supply, mind you) got fried.

Dell would go under within a year if they slacked on their "Award winning customer support" because people would just say f-this after the third screen and 2nd mobo were replaced at the customers expense.

I'm going thru the same crap with an inspiron 2500. I just replaced the mobo about 6 months ago and its starting to show the same symptoms. This my second 2500 with the same issue. Dell just makes crappy laptops getting a new one is only gonna prolong the problem

and that's why you purchase their complete care warranty. then they replace it completely if it is anything major. you get what you pay for. we have over 3000 desktops in our company, and there are some models plaqued with problems (like the Optiplex GX150 series) and others you don't have a single one (like the GX270s).

that's why Dells are the price they are. they are not the top notebooks/desktops around, nor the worst. Dell always likes to stay in that happy middle area.

then again, i don't get **** from Dell or Dell support. the company I work for does over 750k worth of business with them and I do almost all of the company's purchases with them. if support gives you ****, just exclate it up the chain of responsibility. time is $$.

ok so I guess they are sending out a 1.4ghz P4-M

Is the 1.4ghz P4-M really comparable to a 2.0ghz P4m (first release, before redesign) ? I've been seeing articles that say it's comparable due to the redesign and that they are basically the same speed if not better than the 2.4ghz line.

I've been out of the laptop processor researching since i bought this one, I only upgrade my desktop frequently

I'm not going to go the dick route & say you get what you pay for, b/c that's bull****. You purchased an item that was supposed to work the way it was advertised. Since it didn't & you purchased it direct from Dell, then the should own up & replace it. Damn the man. BTW, IBM laptops are great if you were to purchase another laptop after this...

EDIT: Didn't realize you got it resolved...Good stuff
