Automated Footsteps (Seen on Pimp My Ride)
I am thinking of getting some of these for my Vauxhall Frontera Sport, but I've googled for what they called B steps or Z steps as well as automated footsteps and found f all
Anyone in the states know where these can be got from and what sort of $ I am expecting to pay?

in my thinking it's something that pops out of under the car when you open the door, so you can step on it before you step into the car, or out of... they have it on suv-s, but the are not automated...

Dude... U got it!
Sorry, I thought theye were more common over the pond
Yep basically they live underneath the car and are not visible, but when you open the car door they come out from underneath to give people like me from the shires a bunk up into my truck
Then when the door is closed they tuck back up underneath the car...
They looked like a big Z that expanded out and could take the weight...

Get some normal ones, build some rails for them to slide on, and then motorize them...simple actually (but really hard...)

Really, the manufacturing part is the easy part. Welding is the way to go here. Getting them motorized is a lttle tricky as they're kind of heavy, so you need some powerfull motors.
Hey Andy, where are you, you're the one with the motorized thingies...

HIYA!!!!!
The Z shape sounds good and use small rams to move them but make em so that when you step on them. You could also have them with a solenoid lock that is opened when you open the door and then a second switch actuates the step ram.

Just had a pimpness increasing idea: you want to enable it so that when you 1st unlock the car using the remote they come down and then go back up either when you relock the car or close the door (after opening it of course). Also you have to add lighting to them so when in the dark and you press the central locking they light up so you can see where they are.

I think I'll buy an SUV just to build this...I love the ideea. Nice idea Andy, with a couple of neons behind them, comming on just when the door steps are activated. Chewiee, can you post a pic of the car from the side? Also, can you post a pic of some door steps?
