The Woes of Rare Sports Cars
Some of you guys might remember me having a small car crash which cost over $2000 cause the parts are rare.
Well this will make you laugh for sure
My car is down at for getting serviced and I asked them to check out this squeek on the passenger side window when it finishes sliding all the way up.
Well he said this cable that pushes the window up and down had worn and will be going out sometime soon
Now guess how much this cable cost?
$900
That's just to damn funny
The funnier part is that my car is a Ford Probe GT and in USA there common but down here only 2000 were released and only GT models were released here.
$900 for a cable i just find it so funny :P this car has cost me quite a bit of money but i still love it
Just thought id post it :P

So move to America? Sell it and get a Japanese car?
I vote for the latter, you get some nice Japanese cars there that we don't get here (Skyline, JDM Engines)

Can't you order the part for the US and have it shipped to you. I'm pretty sure the shipping charge is not going to be no where near $900.

being from america, hearing a ford probe called a rare sports car makes me giggle.
BTW, I have never seen a ford probe that HAS NOT been in an accident. I dunno if its a design thing or the type of drivers that buy them, but its something I noticed.

Difference is, the skyline is incredibly tunable, the Probe is not.

Probes are rare in the Uk too - cos nobody bought them! The car just did not appeal to UK buyers. When it came out everyone was like "wow, a sports car from ford" but i think it got a few bad reviews and it seemed a bit too 'soft' and impractical and nobidy bothered to buy it. Another thing that didn't help were the swirl pattern wheels that came with the base model - they were just too small and looked like the logo on a washing powder packet. The 24V model looked so much better but i guess not many people were interested. It was marketed as the next Capri and for people that would appeal to it simply wasn't and for the other people who didn't like Capris it put them off too! Jsut the wrong car for our market.
BAck to that cable though! Crikey, have you tried going to a ford spares specialist and seeing if they have one off another car that will fit? or maybe a salvage place. America is probably your best bet though - just don't buy from a dealer. I got charged 4x more for a genuine Pug balljoint than a good quality replacement but i needed it the same day so had to pay.
What about taking the cable out tourself and seeing if you can just get a new piece of cable?

Hell, hearing a Probe called a sports car makes me giggle...
Regardless, you can probably buy the part from eBay or order it from an online salvage yard...Or just mail order from an American/Canadian dealer.

What a shame, I used to have 96 PGT and when I cracked my rear taillight I was able to get the whole taillight assembly off eBay for $45 USD. Also, my moonroof rusted through, I was able to find the whole moonroof assembly, motor and all for $150 USD on eBay. The squeeky window problem was very common in the second generation Probes.
