This is for all you video techie guys (and gals) out there.
I'm looking for a cheap replacement to my DVD player that's aging and doesn't haven't component video output. I don't want to spend alot of money now since I'm going to want to get a new DVD player in a few years when they finally resolved the red laser / blue laser debates.
Anyway...I just did price checking and found I can turn my PS2 into a full function component output DVD player with remote for like $20 in cables and such.
Is there any reason why I wouldn't want to do this?
Is the PS2 progressive scan and all that good stuff?
When I put in a DVD will it start up and run through all the disc's DVD menus just like any other player? Or do you have to alter settings and such each time?
well i dont know about video quality or the malfuction part. Are you pitting this in your car? I had one in my truck(took up to much space) so i removed it. They came out with the smaller one, so im thinking about selling the big on i got. If its for your house. sure why not... saves on space. Ya would prob get better results to your questions through searches than from people on here doing tests on them. I use my ps2 in the house for dvds if its not on the computer.
Trade the PS2 in for an Xbox, mod it, and you can have a media center, the ability to "back up" your games, region free DVD player, run linux on it, and the list goes on..
