Uses for a Mac mini (Mac's in general)...

Since tax time is approaching, most of us will have some extra cash. That & the introduction of the Mac mini bring about an opportunity for possible change. For the last couple of weeks, I've been looking into the Mac mini and Mac in general. I even went out to the Crossgates mall in Albany to play in person, but I can't bring myself to buy one. Aside from it being trendy (which kind of puts me off to it), I can't find a reason to justify purchasing it. I mean, I have a P4 3GHz system at home & I know that the G4 @ 1.4GHz is roughly equivalent. I was even looking into the G5, but those are crazy expensive. So I guess I'm looking to see what everyone thinks of the whole Mac plunge...Also, I'm bored, so I figured I'd add a new topic for discussion

[/RabidMacUserModeOff]What is it that tempts you? If you are satisfied with your current PC set up what possible utility could a Mac mini offer you?

In fact, why would you waste your time at the Apple store looking at them?[/RabidMacUserModeOff]

Well, because they are soooooo slick! Put the "trendiness" issue aside. Apple holds 3% of the PC market. That is NOT a trend. If you own a Mac your friends and neighbors will look at your like you are a Vegan. Move over to a Mac because:

A) They work good. They're still computers, so they get *****ed up now and then, but the headache quotient is lower.

B) It's a nice box. Like a Mini-ITX is a nice box. But different. Sort of neat.

C) New adventure. Don't take my or any Mac zombie's word for it. Decide for yourself. If you hate it, sell it in two months and consider it a $200 experiment.

D) Unix. Really. You can do Unix. And we all know Unix is super cool. If you understand it.

E) No need for virus scanning. No spyware. Yeah, that may be because no one owns them and therefore virus writers don't target them, but my God man, enjoy it while it lasts!

F) Did I mention they work good?

Try it out. Isn't that what the whole Car-PC experimental culture is all about? Get Virtual PC if you have a favorite program that can't be ported. Then you don't have to worry about that "There's no software for the Mac" problem. But if you find yourself running VPC more than 10% of the time, get rid of the Mac. It's not worth it.

Mini mac.

An apple macintosh computer for $500. Never would I have guessed that 5 years ago, or even 10. My dad paid $2000 for an Apple //e in the early 80s.

Point is, good media computer, apple = multimedia. I work in a computer repair shop (no macs cuz NO ONE NEEDS EM FIXED, least compared to the daily I GOT VIRUSES AND SPYWARE HELP ME!!! people that come in and we charge $100 LOL morons) anyway....

The mini is a good buy, not cuz its small, i could give a **** about that, a mobo even an ol school 286 isnt huge, its flat, and its a good buy cuz its a NEW G4 processor for cheap. And now you can have an apple in your car for cheaper than I was gonna do with ebayed parts.... i cant keep typing im stoned.

mini mac, only cuz its cheep do I like it, IMO its cheap and its a mac, thats wut i like.
