Exactly. A plastic liner for the truck bed.
I suppose you wacky Britons have some other term for a truck bed?

A few years ago, I was following some guy who was going camping I guess, and he dropped a big *** log onto the road, and I had no choice but to run over it.
Last year, some idiot working on the road construction left a 3" lip in the middle of the road where they grinded away the road to repave it. this is on the FREEWAY! I hit it @ 45 mph, nothing I could do (rush hour traffic) cause it spanned through ALL 6 lanes!!! It blew out my struts, bent all 4 wheels, cracked my windshield, and cracked my front bumper. I called the city, they sent me to the construction company, they in turn sent me back to the city. I said screw it and called insurance company. They fixed it.
A few months later its raining like hell in the freeway, I got to go around some guy whos driving slow in the fast lane, and theres a stand that holds a roadsign sitting inthe middle of the lane Im getting into, luckily I just swirved to miss it and it just slightly tapped my front bumper (gotta love a good suspension/tire setup that you just had replaced).

I have had a couple close calls myself been driving for about 4 years.
One time I was following a garbage truck and a hubcap came off from the garbage and went flying like a UFO. This was on the highway, swerved and smashed the side of the car.
Another time on the highway a person was getting on the highway in front of me, he had a brand new refrigerator. Of course it was not tied down good and he accelerated hard and the fridge flipped of his truck and landed in front of me, stopped just in time before hitting it.
Yet another time on the highway following a semi which hit a deer, saw the dear fly over my car.
Have hit one squirrel, and about 5 birds, near misses with deer, wild turkeys and a horse.
Have hit a muffler that came off a car in front of me when he went over railroad tracks.
Garbage cans and bags and other things of that nature.
Once ran over a glass beer bottle, heard it break but thankfully it did not give me a flat tire.
Been run off the road more times then I like to count and found myself normally in a ditch or field.
There has been more but can’t remember anything else

- I had a recliner fall of a truck right in front of me, at 75 on the freeway in Dallas. I think it was lucky that the recliner was still doing about 65 when I hit it, or it probably woudl have smashed the windshield, and maybe went of the car (my girlfriends, of course) and caused more trouble. As it happened, I just pulled off to the side of the road, pushing the chair in front of me until I cam to a stop. I was really suprised that the guy whose trailer it fell off actually noticed and stopped.
- I had a car in the next lane over hit a chunk of tire, which flew over into my lane and hit me in the leg on my motorcycle, and that f***ing hurt.
- The big story though is my first snowboarding trip. I met a bunch of friends at 4:30am to drive up to Wolf Creek in souther colorado, from albuquerque. I had a ride, but this girl I dont know shows up at the last minute, and there is no room for her. She is kinda cute so I offer to drive. Fast forward to about 7pm, when I am about 45 minutes from home. As I said it was my first day snowboarding, and I am burnt and bruised and tired, and I can;t wait to get home. Then I see some small rocks in the road. I dodge the first couple, but they keep getting bigger, and more numerous. I just barely clip one, with both passenger side tires (there was only like 1/4 inch of the wheel stripped away, but enough to destroy the rim and lose tire pressure). When I pull off the road, there are already a few cars pulled off to the side (by the end of the night, there were 18 cars and 2 semi's pulled off the road). Everyone was pretty confused about where the rocks came from, since it is a flat area just south of Santa Fe, and we guess it must have fallen out of the back of a truck or something. Anyway, the second car that stops, the girl that I drove, hops into the car and takes off back for home, leaving me by myself. After a while, we finally see a highway patrol car going the other way, shining his spotlight at us. He goes down to the next crossover, but pulls on to the shoulder and stops, about half a mile asay from the last car! He spends about 5 or 10 minutes down there, then finally comes up and starts talking to us. It turns out that he picked up a guy down there that was throwing rocks into the road fromt eh field next to it! The guy apparently had escaped from a mental hospital and had walked quite a ways (i don't know where he came from, but we were at least 30 miles to the outskirts of town) to throw rocks onto the road 'because god told him to.' The officer said there was no chance of us getting anything from him in way of compensation for the damage, but he did offer to pull him out of the cruiser and let us kick his ***. There were a coulpe of guys there that looked like they wanted to take him up on the offer. Anyway, after finally getting a tow truck (he got lost apparently) and being the last one to leave the area, dropping off my car at a tire shop, and getting a ride from a friend, I didn't get home until 1:30am. Oh yeah, the girl left her skis and boots in the car, and I almost felt like selling them. I wouldn't have been there if I hadn't been dumb enough to offer her a ride, and she doesn't even stick around to see what happens.

that is disgusting! Was he too afraid to go in the bushes???
Did it squelch when you hit it? Did you drive straight to a car wash and not get out until it was clean?

zPilott, that is really messed up about that girl...finders keepers I would say!
hmm, my list!
- several squirrels
- racoon on Interstate 695 in rental car
- logs/branches from fallen trees from several huricanes,
- 3-5 inches of standing water (i drive a civic, btw...the SUV's were turning around and I said "**** it")
- curbs (two times slid on ice, once avoiding some jackass on their cellphone while in a dual lane traffic circle moving into my lane, move right to avoid and pop my tire against the curb)
- dog being chased by a fox. driving in the morning down a backroad to work, then THUNK on my drivers door. stop the car, tried to get out and CREEEK. the car behind me said it was a dog being chased by a fox into the side of my car. fur was left on my door, and was $500 worth of damage with no bodies found. the dog hit hard enough to move my driver's side door panel against the frame, making the door make a CREEEK sound everytime it opened.
- two other cars when had my licence for a few months, dark, no moon, and foggy as hell....totaled my parent's ford tarus, totaled a pickup, cliped the bumper of a civic hatchback when going across an intersection that had traffic going 50-60mph, and I thought i was farther down the road and failed to stop until it was too late. i turned in my licence for a year and half until i could buy my own car.
- my old dodge stratus use to have a smiley ball on the back antenna. one day driving home from work on I-95, it was not there anymore since it sheared off the antenna at the base of the trunk. somebody certainly got a surprise.

well, a couple months ago when the hurricanes rolled through i was heading to a hotel and it was dark and light rain. I have no idea how someone lost it but I was doing about 65 went under an overpass and before i had a chance to even swerve I nailed the whole front lower air dam/bumper of either a sunfire or grandprix. All i could think was dayummmm WTF there goes my oil pan and who knows what else. I pulled off expecting the whole thing to be hung up under the car but it ended up behind me on the side of the road.
other than that only things I can remember hitting are tree branches and a rabbit or two. I've missed a few mattresses lying in the road and just the other day I was so ****ed off, driving down the highway passing a dumptruck and 2 rocks fly off the truck and nail my car, putting a few nice chips in my paint....(censored)

I have ran over my share of large chunks of dead things - deer and stuff
about 6 months ago I ran over half a deer, fresh kill - lifted the car up
in the air a bit had skin and hair under my car - nasty and the smell
Quote:
I think the funniest (if you have a bit of a sick sense of humor) was the time I hit a squirrel
I was sitting out in the yard and a truck drove by - I saw a rabbit run under
his truck - and BOOM!!!! like a fire cracker or bomb went off - it was loud
the guy stopped the truck and got out - he thought some thing bad
happened to his truck - but it was just the rabbit - it exploded - LOL
I had a late 80s olds when I first started driving - it had head lights
that were sunk into the car like a box - I was driving to school and
BOOM, I hit a owl - I did not know, but it stayed in the recessed head
light fixture - I thought it got hit and few away or fell some ware ,
well a few min later I see some feathers and blood, and then out of the
blue the whole bird rolls up my hood, hits my window, and flys over
the car, lands on the ground behind me, and I got blood and feathers
stuck all over my car
You think I have bad luck - I know a guy that was drunk with a friend
driving - and had half of his body out the window - and the guy driving
turns to miss the deer and BAM my friend gets hit by a deer - in the chest
and Head - Later that year it was the 4Th of July and we had fireworks
and was driving around shooting at each other at night, each in there
own car, this same guy that hit the deer - lights 500 firecrackers and drops
them on his pants, he was trying to toss them at me - I have never
laughed so hard - every firecracker made a camera like flash and every in every flash you could see his face - every flash he made a new face or
terror - and because he was driving he had to keep driving till he could pull over - All you could see is smoke and panic - some of them burned a
hole into his pants - and some went into his pants ---ROTF LOL---
 - this stuff happens a lot to him

I once saw a 2 by 4 fly out of the truck bed two cars in front of me, and go straight through the passenger window of the car right in front of me.
Also, almost hit a duck (flying) at 80mph, it seems to have pulled up right before smashing into my face.
A car in front of me once annihalated a deer. 70mph, the poor thing exploded all over the road. the guy's front fender was punctured all the way plus some damage to suspension.
And i almost hit a few hundred pedestrians... damn weasels keep on jumping out of the way... just wait for one of these days...
