What Have you hit or missed on the freeway ????
What Have you hit or missed on the freeway
Here is what I have
I live in Arkansas, a state in the USA - and live
between 2 big cities 30 miles apart from each
other - I live in the middle 30 miles from Pine Bluff
30 miles from Little Rock - the 2 cities - there is a
freeway between them, speed limit is 70mph
I do about 74mph as the cops seam to only bust
you at 5 over, and most of the time they dont even
look at you until you going 80-85mph
Both cities are a bit on the rough side -
Well any way - I have seen my share of strange things
on the road - and ran over a fair share of them
----I have only been driving 5 years----
car gas tank - just missed it
BBQ grill - ran over it
Laptop Computer - ran over it
Motor from a VW beetle - just missed it
Bed that was on fire - - just missed it - it was on a trailer - the guy
unhooked it and left - It was not off the road as much as it should have
been
Railroad Tie - ran over it - lost a tire
Trees - 2 of them - one fell off a truck - One a Storm blew down just as I drove by
- both ran over
Mufflers - lots like 3 or 4 - some I hit
Tires - not chunks - the whole thing - some I hit
Bumpers - at a curb just tapped a plastic bumper as I drove by -
seen lots on the side of the road
Huge rocks - Hit a few
A huge terra cotta drip pan 4 foot across flew like a Frisbee from a truck and hit my car -
3 huge bags of soda cans flew from a truck and hit my car -
trash cans lots and hit lot of them - people leave the out in the road - or fall off of a truck just missed one tonight
EMU the bird - three of them, scared the sh_t out of me - I was able avoid hitting them
Deer - lots - never hit one - but close many times
Cop pulled a car over and the car stops in the fast lane - just missed them both
A dead horse - yes a dead horse - on the on-ramp no less
Road cones and such - ran a few over
Some @ss hole nocked a road sign over and left it in the middle of the
road - cut a fuel line - I kept the sign
Angle Iron and metal scrap - lots over the years
Ice chest - full of beer bottles - its happened 3 times - what a waist
Boom Box - shattered into lots of little pieces
concrete blocks - was able to miss them
Ply wood and boards with nails - lots of times - hit some missed some - Had about 3 flats
Cheap lawn chairs - they make a nice crunch sound
Transmission - from a car or truck - had to dodge hitting it - I hope
it fell off of a junk truck
I was on a back road that was small - there was a double wide house
on both sides and me on the other side - and a sharp turn between us,
on my side there is trees and his a lake - so we could not see
what was ahead and no ware for us to go, I am doing about
50mph and he is using both sides of the road, I went off the road
- all tires off - I came less than inches from very big trees - my
mirror touched the trees and scratched it a little but did not break
off - even tho I was off the road the truck still went over some
to avoid hitting me - I would say he missed me by a foot or less
- they should have had a warning car or truck ahead of the
wide load - but did not - It scared the crap out of me
- I could go on - - I wish peeps would keep the road clean
or make sure there stuff is tied down better

Aint you supposed to be looking ahead and change lane on time? or you always drive behind someone who like to throw dead animals and other strange objects on you
The only time I had to move half a lane was when I was approaching a lorry in front had a tyre blow up. Avoiding a chunk of tyre at just under 100mph can cause major disaster. I must say it felt good surviving it.

yeah sounds like a war zone!
My worst one was dodging a carpet that fell off a truck in fornt of me ont he M5 in ****ing rain and far to close to the Volvo 4wd in front - oops. He clipped it with his front left wheel (and almost hit the barrrier), i went the other way and missed it completely and the car behind skidded into it.
Carpet was almost a full lanes width (int he fast lane) and about as high as my headlights and soaking wet so would have been messy if i hit it (or gone underneath the 4wd in front of me who was standing on the brakes). Fortunately i thought about my none ABS brakes and getting to the end of their life tyres and braked properly and was able to steer.
Oh then a bit further down the mototway i dodged some furniture which i presume was also off the same truck.

Wow, Bagdad's got nothing on Arkansas!
I've had a few things, but nowhere near a list like that. Mostly tires from trucks, ran over a dear (nothing I could do, the dear was already on the ground), had a car almost hit me head on with no driver in it. Just noticed it started rolling, then realized there was no driver. Kinda wierd. Almost hit three turkeys while camping. Man, those are big birds.
I think the funniest (if you have a bit of a sick sense of humor) was the time I hit a squirrel. I've had many near misses with them, but this time I was driving my truck and sure enough one ran out across the road. I tried to slow down, but knew it wasn't going to happen so I at least tried to aim so he'd go under the middle and I could have enough ground clearance to let him go under. Well, I saw him go under, and immediately looked in the rear view mirror to see if he made it out the back OK. At first I didn't see anything. I didn't hear him hit, so I was a bit puzzled. Then I look in the air behind me and see this poor squirrel flipping thru the air. He apparently hit the inside of my rear tire and tossed him up in the air... got some pretty good altitude. At first I felt bad, but then he landed and immediately took off running. I was quite shocked and got a good laugh off of it.

I've run over a dead deer before, too. It was late at night and by the time it was noticed, it was too late to avoid without a dangerously drastic maneuver. No damage done, fortunately.
I once saw a potted tree in a lane. It had fallen off a landscape truck. The truck was pulled off to the side, backing up to retrieve the tree. At least they weren't leaving it there in the road.
Ladders in the roadway are pretty common, too. They fall off work truks when a bungee cord breaks or comes loose.
When I was driving to work up I-77 one freezing morning in Ohio, I looked in my rear-view and saw BLACK. Solid black in your rear-view mirtror is a bit unnerving, I must say. Upon closer inspection, I realize that my bedliner had come loose and was flapping up to the point it was obscuring my rear-view. Moments later, my bedliner was airborne.
Traffic was relatively light, fortunately, but I think it scared the **** out of a Dodge Neon about 8 car lengths behind me. The bedliner flew up about 30 feet or so and drifted off to the shoulder, where it came to rest, not blocing any traffic lanes.
I continued on my way to work and had a good laugh about it. IIRC, the power was out that day, so they sent us home.

I was thinking of the kind of liner you put down in case you wet the bed, and was wondering what that would be doing in a car?
