my humble opinion
OK i usually sit quietly in front of my computer and browse the lovely ( once friendly ) mp3car forums.
But for some reason it has gotten a bit nasty toward people who are new to carputers. One would think a niche site would like to see growth and well lets face it growth = new people with many questions. As far as I know everyone started somewhere and more than likely asked a question that may have been asked before or maybe just wasnt too smart. Does flaming them and making them feel stupid make people feel good? From the looks of it YES!
The cliche "Too many chiefs not enough respect toward others" or however the saying goes.
Too many categories!!! come on its just computers in our rides not rocket science...
I will not digress to the root of this post, POST WHORING!!!!!! I cant see any reason why one person would have there own thread to post whore Post Count is great than all... uhhh.
I have never been a mod on an active forum such as mp3car but dayam mods do something to help save mp3car forums its going to hell in a hand basket
This post will probably be edited a few times as I decide the best way to put into words what I am thinking.
Sincerely
veedubya
member since 2001 with less than 140 posts (maybe that makes me less)
p.s You can flame if you wish but if you dont have over 3000 posts in less than 6 months on the forum your comment may be skipped because remember
post count > *

All the sub forums help to keep everything more organized. It is much easier to find thing now, then before we had the sub forums. Lets say your looking for something about one of the frontends, you would know exactly where to go look.

Post count don't mean ****.
And the 100,245 posts by a member is just a joke, he doesn't really have that many post. Plus thats nothing to get upset over. Like you said you been here since 2001 and have under 150. So that tell me you don't associate status with post counts so such a thing as a member having over 100,000 posts should not bother you and Scouse would tell you the same thing.

We seem to have an increasing number of people that will not do even the most basic of research on thier own. The same topics get covered every week (sometimes daily). Even if the FAQs cover the topic in detail.

regardless, you (the general 'you') don't have to insult someone for it. if he/she didn't search and you know the answer can be found then just don't reply... he/she will eventually figure it out.
The other thing that bugs me is when people feel the need to criticize others for no reason (I'm not talking about constructive criticism), but there isn't anything we can do about that. so people have an elevated level of self-worth because they think the things they own are better then yours. ahh...well that is a deeper issue and i don't think we can deal with it on this forum.
This forum should be viewed as more of a brotherhood where we support each other (as i think it was orig. intended) then as a feeding ground for young blood.

As the forums get bigger you're always going to get people that:
a. Have nothing nice to say but will reply to a post telling someone to SEARCH
b. People that don't bother searching and want to be spoon fed.
c. Everyone else that don't fit in a or c.
All the forums I'm a member of have the above three. Unfortunately it's a forum fact of life. I'm on the fence. It would be nice if people search first but I also don't see the need in replying if you're not going to help.

telling someone to search is helping. You are letting them know that the answers are out there and that the topic has been covered and can be found withing the site. I person is much more likly to search if they knew the answers were out there.
As a rule of thumb i try to give people a search term as a guide

Yes, I support that It would also help if you would let us know when someone is banned and there was a way to keep track of ban times and frequency for members, just for fun!

I think the search part is okay, but insulting them while telling them to search isn't.

That's correct.
Telling someone to search in a nice way, and possibly giving them
some terms is fine.
Now when they come back with "**** you, you're not helpful"
Use the report posts link or PM me.
