OMFG *@!#$ ^%$%*#@! 1!@# (rant)
I am not supposed to curse in the thread title, so i ******* did not
So, my car is at the local Nissan dealer, why you might ask? well
I brought it to the local oil change/carwah place last week to you guessed it, get the oil changed. They tell me that my intake is really dirty with carbon and I really should get the fuel system cleaned witch they can do for 59.99, they tell me that they dont just put an additive in the fuel line, they use a pressurized system on the intake to really 'get it clean'. I thought about it and never having had bought any of their 'extra' services before, thought, **** the car did just hit 85k miles, the fuel system could probibly use a cleaning. So I give them the OK.
My car is finished and brought around front. I hear the car idleing really funny, I get in and look at the Tach, it is jumping up and down between 1.5k and 2k, I rev the engine alittle, it sits at 1600 (has never in the 3 years and 85k miles i have owned it moved from an idle of 750) So without even leaving the shop i bring it to their attention. they take the car around back. 5 (yes 5) of them stand over the hood for a half hour, turning the car on and off again. Finally i walk over and say that i would like to bring it to Nissan. They tell me that I have to bring it to a mechanic that they use. Fine, I go.
Their machinic is a nice guy and tells me that my drive by wire throtle system is all ****ed up and a 600 dollar part is the cause.
Fine I tell him to fix it and the oil change place agrees to pay. Yesterday He got the part and put it in.
The car is still ****ed up. He calls Nissan, They tell him that my car needs a "re-learn" procedure.
Fine I get an appointment scheduled for this morning, and I go.
Nissan then tells me that my car is really ****ed up, they dont yet know what is wrong with it, and it could be there for 2 weeks!!!!!! I am supposed to drive my family (who is flying in from indania) my girlfriend and myself on vacation this weekend. I have no other car, my girlfriend does not drive, I am screwed and now have to rent something, and still dont have any garentee that the oil change place is going to pay to fix whatever it is that they ****ed up, n addition to what their machinic fixed.
The only good thing to come of all this is that nissan told me my car does infact have CAN eventhough it is an '02
grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

CAN is the next standard that is replacing OBD II it is supposed to be only in cars '03 and newer just as OBDII is supposed to be in cars '96 and newer (in the US)
EDIT : sorry it means that i can get alot more information to my carputer from my car. (and I think the refresh is much faster then OBD II, as well)

So with CAN it will be easier to find the problem (saving you money)?

I did a tune up about 8 month ago (fuel sys clean, radaitor flush, diferential oil ('cause I do off-roading) bells, supercharged reajust...... and never have a problem. (all this a nissan)
But one thing for sure...... I change the oil myself (I use silicone SUV) that is supouse to be the best. I stop going to crapy places for the oil when I have my other car 'cause I saw this guys puting generic oil from one of those big drums so when I bought the X I said "**** jiffy lube".....
I hope everything turns out all right for you.

sorry to hear. Isn't the dealer supposed to give you a loner? I change my own oil, and use mobil 1 0-40 fully synthetic oil and if i have time to drop by the vw dealership, i use the big Mann filter. sometimes i don't even trust vw to change my oil. If i don't know them. And even with full synthetic i have it done for about $35 and about 30 minutes of my time. so next time eighther do it yourself or a dealer. As for the cleaning, if you never cleaned it, you could use a dealer cleaning (more but they are really pro's) and if you add fuel system cleaners to say every 3 tanks of gas, you'll be sound for a long time. Those things work mirakles.
Good luck my man! Hope everything turns out ok... and cheap...

I used to change my own oil, but now i live in an apartment.
They did not screw up the oil change, they did something with there 'pressurized cleaning system' for the fuel system.
@ kevinkiller Ya CAN should give more data on the computer, but Consult (nissans propritary interface) gives a unreal amount of data (and lets you modify car settings in real time). And the nissan dealer (where it is) has access to that.

Sorry to hear about your problems. How much do you guys pay for synthetic oil anyways? I paid $52 for Mobil 1 SAE5-30 Fully Synthetic and a Mobil 1 oil filter. Then $10 for oil change.

I got that.....
I meant that those places don't give you the best relible services plus they use generic parts. (the also scew other parts in the car)
If I have to go to a place to change the oil that will be the dealer.
BTW I also live in an apartment.

2 bottles cleans the whole engine.
Always have the dealer do oil changes. They know what they're doing, and for oil changes, they actually compete with other places on price.

I used prestone fuel system cleaner (Wal-Mart $5) every 3-4 tanks, and it improved gas milage and idle. So it's woth it. If you need fast results, use it on every tank for the first 5-6 tanks, and you will notice difference. Also: AUTO-RX works wonders. we bought the van (94 chevy g20) and it had no airfilter on it, and it used to be a verizon truck. so it was in bad *** shape, and we fixed it up pretty good with it. now runs like a champ. i could tell you more on that.
Ol33l: I pay 4.88 for a quart of Mobil 1 SAE 5-W40 Fully synthetic. But if you find the 5quart size it's 22.95 or something, yet again @ wal-mart
I'm not for wal-mart or something, but untill i'm poor, i'll shop there...
