Yep, that's the one I was talking about too. I've been on that one - don't remember anything too horrific about it.....

Dude, when I was there, they would take a 3 hour lunch !
Every day. They took off, ate lunch, got a buzz, took a nap,
and then came back to work.
I was very envious.

Where is that? It sounds very italian or spanish to me, but unfortunatrely not here in Latina America AFAIK...
Also I always get baffled about how traffic doesnt become absolutely chaos in places like paris... like 4 or 5 MAJOR avenues of the city combine in a huge roundabout with no redlights or whatver... ******* amazing!

Idiots here do not understand a "free flowing traffic lane". It is just the right lane making a right turn into its own lane. Traffic never needs to stop, but even with huge signs people still stop. The city changed the intersection to a yield because so many accidents happened from idiots stopping. But people still stop for a yield sign with no traffic. Go figure. Roundabouts are usually in neighborhoods around here and it is many to keep speeds down and people form running stop signs. One of those big roundabouts would be amusing to watch around here.

We have one of those around here at Crossgates Mall (southbound exit on that image). It's just like you describe; there are 2 lanes at the end of the merge: one for the traffic already on the road and one for the merging traffic, but I think that I'm the only person other than the intersection's designer who noticed this.
Now that I think of it, most of the drivers in this area are really chicken****... I'm always amazed how docile they all seem when I return from a drive in any neighboring state (VT excluded; they're wusses, too).

Hmm, Portugal has an interesting driving rule.
Cross roads : No lights, the right of way is to the person with the loudest horn

Not quite like that, it was an intersection will all the right turns flowing into there own lane. The signs said "Free Flowing Traffic Lane - KEEP MOVING", plus it was impossible for traffic to enter that lane for a few hundred feet, since barriers where in place. But people saw the red light and still stopped.

Surely that's a personal matter between you and him and shouldn't be discussed here on the forum.

Got mate who's originally from Amersham, Buckinghamshire. He used to love driving on back roads, so his directions were get off the M1 at Hemel and drive an extra half hour to get to his house

Ah yes, an accurate account of driving in Italy. Fortunately when I go back I look, smell, and drive enough like a local. I MUST BE PASSING.
An (old) Fiat 500 passing cars is a sight to behold.
