Laptop Harddrive

I have a Toshiba Satellite A75-S206 laptop. Its a P4 2.8G adn 512mb of ram with a 60gb HDD. The HDD is like 4200rpm and it is awefully slow! I was wondering If i can change the HDD t oa 7200? I know hitachi sells a 7200RMB laptop drive but would it be ok to put in my laptop? I dont want thinkg overheating and **** like that.....What is my best option?

response.

Well if the new drive really is a 2.5" drive then I see no problem in buying it and putting it in. I'm also going to say your safe as far as the new drive overheating your system.

Personally, I wasn't aware of a 7200 RPM laptop drive being available. But as you know computer hardware changes almost daily and I might have just missed the memo on the new laptop hdd speeds!

Yep 7200 exist since a long time in 2.5 inch they even exist in 5400.

As for changing the hard drive , check on the laptops website for compatible hard drives just in case .

there are different height's to 2.5" drives, this is something you have to check before ordering a drive..... they range from 9-12mmm I think???

It doesnt sound right no... I think it wont void your warranty... They say it themselves that they sell Laptop drives and drive upgrade kits, it says that "service center MAY be contacted for drive upgrades and options"... it never says that you MUST contact them or that it would void your warranty...

Just call and ask... also, if at any moment you need to send your computer in for warranty just pop the old drive back in... You most probably dont need to open the whole computer to replace the drive, it usually is user-serviceable...

most are user upgradable..... some aren't though.... I've got a slim panasonic toughbook that I wanted to do, but the thing would't come apart... I called panasonic & they told me that if I did it ,it would void the warentee... this is probably the exception rather than the norm though....

yeah, this t-2 is one of the few without ANY access...I came real close to damaging it trying to get at the drive..... I don't remember ever seeing anything else that couldn't be opened easily enough though... most have the "lid's" or worse case there under the keyboard...
