saab 900 se convertible... good or bad?
O.K., so I just had a 95 saab 900se convertible given to me for dirt cheap..... it needs a little bodywork, but that's not a problem for me really....
heres the problem:
I never had a saab
I don't know anyone who's ever had a saab
I rarely ever worked on a saab, & my mechanic says the same
I do know that saab parts are stupid expensive, but I can source parts on ebay & junkyards.... this has to be a budget project
I never considered having a saab, but since this car is in really nice condition & it's a convertible, I'm considering keeping it as a back & forth to work type deal
now my question..... anyone have any experience with these cars? is it a piece of **** or just a misunderstood oddball.... I guess saabs aren't too popular in ny, but since this is an international forum I figured I'd ask

they are kinda misunderstood oddballs
They are tempermental but if they have or are taken care of they are great cars
Lucky enough u can get a new front bar and grill to make it look like the new saab 95 give it a more modern look

Anyone who owns a Saab, has a different look on their faces...that car was designed for one thing only...style.
I've seen some shows on Discovery about reconditioning a Saab, and it was pretty chep to do.
Any pics?

As far as i remember Saabs are Svedish cars, and volvo is too.. so you can guess. I think it'll hold to it's quaility. A bit avarage as far as the body styling goes, but a rock solid car. I don't like the dash though... hasn't changed in ages... On the auto show a few years back, i sat in a convertible, it even looked nice, but the frickin dash ruind everything.. IMHO

yeah, it seems that saabs over here are a yuppie sort of thing..... my mentality to saab was that it was a car for someone who didn't know any better
this car looks pretty cool though... I like the tripple insulated top & how it opens & closes like a benz or lexus.... full auto with a hard boot cover that opens oposite..... also the build quality of the body is good, heavy strong.... reminds me of a german car..... now electrically & mechanically are my concerns...
this one is a v6 2.5 auto non-turbo, it's in real nice shape except for the hit.... I paid $750 for it & would set a total budget of $3,500 finished, including the purchase price, repairs, car pc & all....
this is what the car looks like, this isn't the actual car though, but identical except for the colors & wheels

just set up an ebay snipe for a pc for this......will know in less than an hour if it's mine or not.... I haven't even found a hood or headlights or rear bumper yet, but the pc, now THAT'S important!!.... this will be a budget build, unlike my previous install also, because it is a convertable, I will high bright a lilliput that I already have for it with led's, but not liquid cooled, this will be fan cooled...

Part it out for the super-expensive prices you hear about and make money off it!
Edit: looks like I missed the point... Oh well. I don't know anything about Saabs

Hey that was a good buy.
The saab should be a good car. Give it a servive and check eveything over and it should do well over 200k miles. That is what we see them do over here. The body may be falling apart but they just keep going. Well the old ones did anyway. They should also handle pretty good. I do remember by ex went on a business trip with one of the women from work who had one and she didnt like it much but she was odd and I think she complained at the interior and getting her hair blown everywhere.
miserable *****
The interior is very industrial but that is because SAAB try to play on their aerospace background. The ign key should be on the centre console between the seats which is a bit odd but i think most people prefer it after a while.

when i worked in white plains my boss had a 9 3 I used to drive alot, (think it was an 01) it was turbo'ed and really felt fast when the turbo kicked in. It also handled very well. She drove alot and it had 70-80k or so miles on it back then (02 or 03) and i remember that the car sounded like it was was going to fall apart everytime I hit a bump driving it, did not seem like it was built very well and the ny roads took a toll on it. I think hers might have been built after saab got bought out though, I think she also beat the **** out of it.
