un-*******-believable. well, yes it is believable, but it's amazing to see which lengths they will go to through to "protect" the music, and what they will subject LEGITIMATE CD PURCHASERS to!!!!
the players in the music industry need to be hit with lawsuits and be made to shake in fear, as they wish to do to us.
i haven't bought a CD in years, but it's because methods such as this that i vow to never buy another CD again.

I buy cds to support an artist. It's just galling when you find that they :might: get 10% if they're lucky; it's more like 3% for a new group.
One option would be to d/l it and send the group a cheque... not @ their record company address!

**** if things are going to be like that I will stop buying this for christmas:
- Slim PS2
- Sony MP3 player
- Digital camcorder
- Home theater
Plus I will ever buy any CD/DVD drive for any installation.
If they want war we can boycott their ******* products.

The thing is, is that the rest of the poeple in the world with computers don't realize whats going on and probably never will. So sony is going to get away with this...
Although, if you went out and bought a CD with this DRM crap on it, then got infected because of a hole in software you didn't knowingly install on your machine couldn't you sue???

I would think so, Fxckin with the kernal, that just ****es me off, ***** like this is what makes people NOT buy CDS!!!!!
lower the prices! I would pay $5 no problem for a shiney piece of plastic with good music on it.
same thing with software, but im not getting into that.

Some of you have seen me express my opinion that just because record companies are greedy that doesn't mean you are entitled to steal their product.
But THIS! Now THIS ****es ME OFF. What a load of ignorant d*ckheads.
My only satisfaction is that this kind of activity only accelerates their eventual demise. The best part is that even if they realize it, they can't help themselves. Mark my words - DRM will accelerate, not slow down the death of the music industry.
I'm still not advocating stealing music. The record industry is a bunch of lunkheads just like the airline industry. There's lots of stupid and/or greedy corporations out there. They usually die off after some period of time. This one is the same. Just may take awhile.

you play a sony cd it installs software that cripples your windows install if removed to prevent you from copying a cd more than 3 times. by changing windows behind the scenes with no traceable way to really safely remove it. because this bypasses the windows registry and other ways of undoing the softwares installation...
pretty much someone will find a vunerability that this creates make a virus and sony will be sued class action style  bad tommy

if u renamed a virus to $sys$virus.exe it will be hidden and could be run :P
It's stupid that put your email on sonys form them they ask u to email u your name and phone number then they ring u up and u get grilled on the phone from them about removing it and then they send u to another website that only makes the DRM visible then u need to go and get something else to delete the visible files.

This kind of behavior by them makes me feel no sympathy about all the poeple that steal music from them.
The thing is guys is that the majority of computer users simply will never know this is going on and they know that. This is just a toe in the water by them and its going to get worse. The majority of poeple just ignore technology and use it or are so passive they let them get away with this.
I can see a day in the future where we will be digging out are old PC's because the hardware will not have built in DRM defenses.
There really is an issue of invading privacy here and in order to stop it poeple, in masses, have to stand up against it. And I just don't think that would ever happen...

Exactamundo. This doesn't affect pirates at all. Why the hell would they buy a CD when they can download it for free?
This penalizes paying customers, which is why it does nothing but harm their business. I sure as hell am not going to buy any CD's in the future.
I pay for my music on iTunes. Then I *might* remove the DRM from it later on. I say might because I know this is illegal under the DMCA. But of course, I paid for the music and I wouldn't share it with anyone, so how does that harm the recording industry?
Hypothetically speaking, of course. I would never actually do this.
