Swapped an engine this weekend, pics inside
First, some good ol' fashion garage man love...
Donor
I don't remember what this was
Got it all done in one weekend, with no manual, and no idea what I was doing!
Now, I'm ready to go to the national meet in LA! Woohoo.
Oh, and for everyone that thought this thread was going to be something awesome dropped into a Tracer, no, it's just a plain ol ford 1.9l engine. Haha. That's a little later down the road.

Oh happy days. Well done dude! I never had an electric hoist to help me when I used to do it (a few times) I just relied on 4"x4" lump of wood stretched across the front wings and some crappy rope.

Why'd you swap it? I wouldn't have dropped it in the top for sure. Anything transverse should come in from under the body.

Cause the old one had 160 000 miles and this one had 80 000.
And thats how you take out a engine , from on top.

doesnt really matter which way you take it out but i've always just "dropped" the engine out of front wheel drive cars and lifted the car off the engine. now if i had an engine hoist i might do them different but when all you got is a lift you make due

its funny I have every thing but a lift - I used to use a old tree and some chain
and a come-a-long, now I got a motor lift - and I also used to jack up the
car or truck and use old rail road ties, or old rims, to keep it up in the air
then drop the transmission on my chest, now I use a transmission jack -
little easier to breathe

Yup, these cars are almost like hondas... lol. Bad comparison...
They last forever. Plus I got a really good deal on that parts car. It was wrecked so I bought the whole thing for $100. Now I have enough parts to fix my other escort as well. So basically I paid $100 and got 2 working cars out of the deal.
Yay for me.

lol, hey, my car was still working fine, but the clutch went out, so I figured I'd swap the whole engine. And like we were talking before, my other car came from someone else that doesn't know how to take care of their stuff, it dropped a valve seat or something from overheating.
My engine with 160,000 still runs like a champ. But I would be scared of something going wrong driving it all the way to Louisiana.
BTW kev, tell me what kind of car you drive again??
