Cool

Thanks for the support, guys.

It is confirmed that yes, indeed, the insurance company will fix it. The damage appears to be around $5000 or so. So all I have to do is sit back and wait a month for the work to be completed.

Yes, the MP3 player continued to play after I was hit, but the stereo ceased operation. I had been having problems with it randomly shutting off, so the loose wire was probably just jarred too much.

As for my neck, it seems much better now. I will be going to the doctor sometime this week to make sure. Unfortunately, in Canada we have this thing called "no-fault", which basically says I can't sue the lady.

And yes, women should not be on the road.

Why do all women want grand cherokee's?? Every girl I know thinkgs they are the coolest SUVs. What's up with that?? They look like eggs on 4 wheels not to mention they are like $34,000 for a decently accesorized one. Someone fill me in on this craziness.

they get the XJ's just because of the name Jeep. They think it can go anywhere. If they were smart they would buy a 4Runner...

Update

I stopped off at the body shop on Friday to get some stuff from the car, and it looks like they will have it complete by the end of this week. They have all the parts, and the rear end is back in proper shape. I will have them do some misc. rust repair while they have it in primer, and then it gets painted. That's what's probably going to take the rest of the week. My paint is a custom blended three stage process, so it very much depends on weather, time, etc....We will see.

Now the bad news. The MP3 player began acting up badly last week in the rental. Crashing, skipping, not booting, etc. So I took it apart, tightened things up and cleaned it out. Worked for about a day. Then started having problems. So I pulled it apart, re-imaged the OS, ran a surface scan (no errors) and let it run a few minutes. Sure enough, it crashed badly right in the middle of The Proclaimers - 500 Miles. It is crashing in DOS, in Windows, etc. There is obviously a motherboard problem. The only thing I can think is that a small crack started when I was rear-ended, and got aggrivated over time. So I ordered a new motherboard and installed it on Saturday. Of course, the new board was bad. So it goes back to the shop today to be exchanged, and I hope to have the player running again by later tonight. Sigh.

Aaron - Since this was something that was part of your car (securely mounted), is there any chance of a claim?

OK. So the MP3 player is working again now. I replaced the motherboard, but it would not boot. I brought it back to my supplier, but we were able to get it to boot there! Very annoying. Finally figured out that even though the manual says the PC-Chips 586LMR will support a Cyrix 6x86, it will not. Put an Intel 166MMX on the board, and it works great. Nice to get that done.

I called my insurance company and asked about them covering the $160 it cost to repair the player, but they said that they will not cover it because I fixed it myself. In order for them to cover it, it would have to have been sent to a "qualified" technician. I tried to explain to them that there isn't anyone qualified to work on my custom/home built hardware and software, but they said it didn't matter. Quite frankly, I'm not sure if I care, becasue I just don't have the time or patience to deal with it. However, I believe the lady who hit me will be next seeing my smiling face in small claims court....

Anyway, I expect to have my car back by Wednesday or Thursday of this week. Finally! First thing I'll do is do a massive burnout in front of this woman's house, then head to the track...
