i have got my hands on a pair of 6 by 9's , and my car is a holden gemini (1982) station wagon. i want to build a box (pair of boxes) to put them in. how big should they be? or is there a site that can give me informatiopn on how to build boxes for speakers?

I am not to sure about NZ but, in America 6x9 boxes are about $20 and therefore cheaper to buy than to build.

, ok i am completely broke. i mean completly. i am getting petrol from my dad who has a 500 liter tank on his farm and he cant use it. thats how broke i am. i can get free materials , and i have no job yet and i like doing stuff myself so it would be cheaper to build it , i just need to know how big it should be. like "a speaker box for a 6 by 9 should be about 3 liters" or some such advice

First of all, it's obvious that you're not familiar with building speaker boxes (cubic feet, not liters. . .unless you plan on using these things under water??). Anywayz, most 6x9's that I have seen do not advertise specs for optimal boxes that are built for them - most just say that the front of the speaker must be isolated from the back. If I were you and I wanted to make a box for the speakers, I'd just build two generic boxes, leave about 1 cu. ft. of space in each. The important thing is to make sure that the boxes are SEALED - run caulk on the inside for all the seams to seal it tight.

yup i have no experiance , but everyone i talk to describe sub boxes in liters so i figure that normal boxes are to. 1 cubic foot , thats like 33 cubic centimeters. thanks heaps for the advice , and the pointer to those websites

(p.s. i though that 1 cubic centemeter is the same size as 1 milliliter of water....)

i have learned that 20% more effort can mean 100% better sound. i was oriagnally going to build the basic of boxes , to protect my speakers (they will be just sitting on the floor) but looking at those sites i think maybe i should put in a bit more effort. thanks

yeah i dont mean to be a jerk to my fellow americans, but cubic feet and liters are the same thing...volume. thats why the metric system is the bomb. everything can be taken from 1 mL = 1 cm^3 = 1 g ... its all there...conversion couldnt be easier, and its all based on water...INGENIOUS!
