WTF is up with ebay sellers ? or am I naive ?
I am pretty ****ed with a number of sellers on ebay !
I am not sure whether its due to my location or my ebay naivety but wtf is going on ?
I have had a very good run of ebay deals and suddenly I got 5 going bad at once ? is this the american christmas spirit ? and the paypal / ebay disputes are useless ! nothing gets resolved and the seller carrys on unaffected !
I got shipped an empty box that I paid 100usd for
I got shipped a damaged intercooler - damaged prior to shipping
I got 3 other items that just have never arrived
its not the post because stuff from the store here gets through all the time and other vendors
Is this just a bad run ? or is this the real ebay showing its teeth ?
I have probably done 20-25 transactions on ebay and not 1 problem and now I got serious issues and serious out of pocket issues as well !
Is the dispute console the best or is leaving bad feedback best or spamming them or what ?
anyone got a few goons for hire ?
need a couple of kneecaps broken
What really upsets me is many US companies refuse to do business with (South) Africa because of scams but I think the worst scams are in the US own backyard !
Please post your experiences as well !!!!
I am wondering if "e commerce" as we know it actually has a future ....

yip thats why I called them "sellers"
ebay as a tool is great
but there dispute handling is slow, it sucks and has no teeth
The sellers are the biggest problem

Maybe if there weren't so many dang scammers on ebay then they could put more resources into the disputes department. They spend so much time on money on account takeovers and filtering scammers it isn't even funny.

I think your location is a disadvantage. A huge number of honest sellers won't ship to Africa, so you're exposed to a greater number of scammers. They don't care where you are as long as they can scam you. Africa is probably better because they figure you'll never track them down.
Maybe you'll have to cool off on Ebay and go the regular online route.

I've had over 100 transactions on eBay, both buying and selling. I've never actually been ripped off. I did have one or two frustrating experiences, but I was able to work it out with the other person to our mutual satisfaction. I have never had to leave negative feedback, and have a 100% feedback rating myself.
I am very careful to buy only from sellers with really good feedback scores. For buyers, it doesn't matter a whole bunch, since I require PayPal payment for my auctions, and so I get paid before I even box up the item to ship it out.
That being said, I think I would recommend re-vamping the eBay feedback system. Right now it is too simplistic. Good, bad or neutral - with a comment. I think there should be three categories for feedback - "Item as Advertised", "Shipping" and "Communication". So, a seller could be good on one, but not so good on another. Maybe he's really crappy at communicating what's going on, but the item was as advertised and shipped promptly and in good condition. Might give buyers a little better info without actually making the process to unwieldy.

Agreed. Perhaps the people you are dealing with got screwed over by someone from Africa.

I dont see how sellers could get anymore screwed by someone from Africa, than from New York.
A payment via paypal is payment via paypal, sellers only ship when the money hits the account, to be shipped empty boxes and shipped damaged goods is just too much ! The wheel will turn and maybe I will oil it a little to make it turn faster

Well, I realize that South Africa is a pretty sophisticated country with a vibrant economy but I think a lot of people are really wary of other parts of Africa, particularly with the number of Nigerian scams that are out there. I expect they tend to lump them together and label it "Africa".
Whether through ignorance or whatever, I won't ship to buyers anywhere but the U.S. Shipping is easier, it doesn't take that long, and I know what to expect. I don't want to hose somebody on an Ebay transaction and get negative feedback because I was an idiot. I wouldn't have the faintest idea of how to figure out an African shipping problem. In the U.S., I can at least get a handle on it.
If some dack from NYC decides to crap on me with an Ebay transaction, it is at least inside a country with a set of laws and rules that I'm familiar with. Makes PayPal communication easier and even if I'm screwed in the end, I can figure out how and why it happened. (Hasn't happened yet, though).
I also won't buy from any sellers abroad, but that's mostly because the shipping kills you. Although Africa is definately out.
