Rice...A definition/explanation
So the word "rice" get's thrown around a lot in automotive discussion nowadays, and a lot of people have different meanings of rice. This leads to much confusion. I happened to find the "dictionary" definition on the Net somewhere, and it makes perfect sense to me. It's below, paraphrased...
Rice/ricer: one who attempts through "bolt ons" to increase performance of non-performance enconomy cars. These cars may be domestic or forign in origin, and very little (if any) performance increase is achieved through the ricer modification process. This process ususally involves the installation of ugly rear wings (on FWD cars), enormous exhaust tips and other non-functional "performance" items. Ricers are normally identified by the large amount of stickers (for products they don't have) on their vehicles, and their general lack of automotive knowledge, as well as their cocky and ignorant attitude. Note that "rice" can be applied to even performance cars if they are done in such bad taste.
Examples:
-Rice: Honda Civic w/6" exhaust tip, aluminium rear wing, 22" wheels, $300 worth of stickers (NOS, Mugen, etc...), combat style body kit, some ungodly shade of pastel paint, seatbelt covers, Altezza style lights, painted interior plastic (can't match rest of car), lowered to the point it scrapes the ground.
-Not rice: Honda Civic, internal engine modifications, turbo setup, chassis mods, weight reduction, handling mods (not necessarily slammed into the ground), real exhaust system, etc.
So there you go. I still don't know why someone would want to modify a Honda Civic, but at least it's respectable if actual performance increasing modifications are done...

Boltons for any car are fine, and it doesn't matter if you increase the performance of economy cars. It's the exhuast tips, and stickers, and body kits, and wheels, and things like that. There are respectable hondas that run low 1/4 times but they look stock or close to it, and could not be considered rice.

I would have thought that wider wheels (with decent tyres) would give better performance, since the extra rubber would help when cornering/stopping.
But apart from that, im agreed. We have cars like that in the UK, even though you never hear the term "rice"... stock 1.2 litre engine (wow.... 60hp!), massive exhaust, pointless spoilers, etc.... It`s always nice to know someone has a slower car then you

I found this on another board...HILARIOUS!
Yo, VTEC, lets kick it…
Rice Rice Baby,
Rice Rice Baby...
Alright stop
Collaborate and listen
Rice is back with a brand new invention
Chopped springs,
Make me hug the road tightly
Coffee can exhaust tip, flowin loud nightly
Will it ever stop, yo, I don't know
Flip on my neon, and I can glow
To the extreme my car looks like a candle
And the paint job looks like it was done by a
vandal
Dance, I got a speaker that booms
This ain't a car, it's a rolling sound room
Deadly, listen to the melody
If it was louder, bet it'd be a felony
Love it or leave it, no gain that way
Type-R stickers say "I'll lose ya any day"
If there was a problem, yo I'd solve it
Check out my rims while my front drive revolves
it
Rice Rice Baby
Rice Rice Baby
Rice Rice Baby
Rice Rice Baby
Now my suspension is jumpin
My bumper drags the ground, but who cares I'm
thumpin'
Quick to the point, to the point no fakin'
Cookin mopeds like a pound of bacon
Burnin 'em, cause I'm quick and nimble
Can't phase me, and my VTEC symbol
Line em up, my rides on the bottle
So I can run with the V8 throttle
Rollin' in my 2 point 0
It runs 18's but that ain't slow
The girlie on stand by, won't even say "Hi"
Did ya stop?
No, I just flew by
Kept on, pursuing to the next block
I bust a left, and I'm heading to the next stop
The block was dead, you, so I continued to
A-1-A,
Rankin Avenue
Girls looked hot wearing less than bikinis
Saw a few chumps driving stock Lamborghinis
Jealous, cause I'm out driving mine
Ready to race CZ my Nittos looking fine
My exhaust buzzes, like a swarm of bees
Thats ok, sounds like performance to me
If there was a problem you I'd solve it
Check out my rims while the front drive revolves
it
Rice Baby
Rice Baby
Rice Baby
Rice Baby
Take heed, cause I'm a Honda poet
Akimoto's on the scene just in case you didn't
know it
My exhaust tip, that created all that bass sound
Rumbles enough to put holes in the ground
My ride's style is looking so real
With an exhaust note that ya can feel
A 4 foot spoiler, it's a hell of a concept
Brushed aluminum works great unless its real
wet.
In my rear view mirror you'll fed
slice like a Ginsu sounds like a Kitchen-Aid
So fast, that all V8's say,
"If rice was a drug, I'd sell it by the gram"
Keep my composure when the tire breaks loose
Magnetized by the kick of the 30 horse juice
If there was a problem, you I'd solve it
Check out my rims while the front drive revolves
it
Rice Baby
Rice Baby
Rice Baby
Rice Baby
Yo, we auto here
E-brake burnouts to your manhunt
Rice Baby, I lost, I lost
Rice Baby, I lost, I lost
