projection TVs
well, this has little to do with mp3 cars, but have any of you all seen those "build a 100 inch projection tv" things? It includes a lens/plans. It is only ten bucks so it isnt much a of a risk, but i thought i would ask you all first. any thoughts?

I believe that they work like an overhead projector, I have been told that they reflect your tv's image onto a surface and then project it onto a wall. Don't quote me on that though.

Basically, you could go buy a 9" TV for cheap, and use two convex (or maybe concave, I forget) mirrors to enlarge and reflect the image onto the wall. You'll get about the same quality.

The picture isn't very good. It's dark and blurry. But for under $100, it ain't bad.

In theory, this would work. However, in practice the resulting picture would be very dim. This is because the CRTs used in projection TVs are thousands of times brighter than those used in regular TVs. Interesting idea though...

A better idea would be to get a large lense, like the ones used in overhead projectors, the large one, not the one with the mirror, the other one, I think these should work much better...

I am going to have to go with skinny on this one, i have one also, 1.) the room has to be almost pitch black to see the picture, and 2.) the images, are not the greatest of quality on all things

I've seen those! You're gonna need a very dark room and you're gonna have to open the TV and modify the horizontal and vertical circuitry because the lens inverses the image or you're gonna have to place the TV upside down (to correct the image vertically) and add a mirror (to correct it horizontally-large screen TVs use a special mirror). If you place a TV upside down you might get weird colors. Image quality will poor and the whole thing will be an eyesore... which is OK- if you're single!!
