Cool Status of my RX-7 turbo conversion

A few wanted me to post status reports on the conversion from NA to turbo I am doing on my '86 RX-7. Work has been slow because my weekends have been busy, but I have got a little done.

The NA exhaust manifold has been removed, as well as the cold start assist system, 5th and 6th intake ports, air control valve and secondary throttle butterflies. Pictures below:

The pictures show the removed throttle stuff, ACV, port actuators and cold start. I need to make blockoff plates to cover the holes.

This weekend, I plan to remove the oil cooler as it needs to go to the rad shop to repair a leak. I will also have the rad guy add a nipple for oil to the turbo. The oil pan will be removed, and a nipple added for oil drain. Also, I will plug up some holes in the throttle body, and remove the upper intake for installation of larger injectors. Might even have time to measure for the intercooler...

looking good so far. i wish i knew more about the technical aspects of cars. i bet you cant wait to get the turbo installed and go for a ride. you should post a before and after 1/4 mile time, or a 0-60 time when you get it done.

Cool

I'm very exited to have it finished....I've been known to sit in the car in the garage and make car/turbo sounds...

As for 1/4 times, the before is 15.36. I have run some 14s, but they are not easily reproducable, so I don't count them. After, I'm looking at low 13s high 12s. If I get the urge for more speed, I can install a larger turbo...

Fit a dump valve to the turbo, then you can make even better noises.

Total re-design underway: on the whole progress is very slow as the car is taking up too much time :)

I love the turbo sound too, but when it is at high boost for a few hours because you are pulling a heavy load against the wind, then it kind of gets annoying...I have to crank the stereo even higher...
