Florida Police having new undetectable radar/laser speed guns?

Florida Police having new undetectable radar/laser speed guns?

On my way to college today there was a police car on the median and they were pointing a speed gun at cars, my radar detector did not go off...nothing.
On the way back, same police car, nothing again from my radar detector again, but this time there were like 10 pigs on the side of the road with several speed guns pointing at cars. The guns were tiny and looked brand new..looks like they were trying new equipment out.

Could that be true? Undetectable speed guns? That would really suck... Can’ afford all those tickets...

Maybe they're bluffing and just maintaining a physical presence so that people will just slow down.

Also, don't think for a moment that your radar detector is infallible.

Physical presence, I don't really think so. It wasn't downtown, in this area there's basically a college and a couple of gated communities, not that many people driving by.

I crossed them TWICE. And my radar detector usually works great.

Obeying the speed limit, well..i have done it after my last ticket for a while, I know what it feels like...NO, definitively don't wanna do it again.
Don't get me wrong, I am not a crazy driver, I just don't wanna pay $180 dollar for driving 10-15 above the speed limit on an empty road.

Technically speaking, I doubt it is possible.

Speed detection has always been based on doppler shift, and timing from signals that were sent out from the gun. This means that the signals sent out can be detected. Now, if they have developed something that does not need to send out signal, then it would be undetectable, and certainly it could one day be done, I am just not sure how. Something has to be sent back to the gun to determine the speed. What they would use, that would provide accurate speed measurement with out timing/doppler shift is very UNLIKELY.

However, it is possible that they are using a new technology or frequency that your particular detector doesn't pick up, or perhaps, they have introduced some sort of new technology that send such a minute/short duration signal that the detector does not have enough sensitivity or detection ability for that length of signal. in that case, it is probably just a matter of time before someone comes up with something to detect it.

Like Wiredwrx said, if it is new technology, it is just a matter of time before we have some sort of detector/jammer.

Has this happened before? I thought those radar guns were pretty old...I mean like the actual guns the pigs have are like 30 or so years old...

Well I hang out a www.radardetector.net it's a radar forum. They maybe using a Ku radar gun. I highly doubt it what im thinking is maybe pop radar. Thats hard to detect also could be laser. You can hit a car with laser and a detector wouldnt go off it happens.

Maybe they are watching for people who spike their brakes? Then pull them over? Scaring people to slow down?

Old detectors dont detect laser. You be surprised how many people have old detectors and still using them.

Um if it WAS a laser than your detector would ONLY go off if they pulled the trigger on your car.

Sounds like paranoia from a lead foot to me.

Laser i only going to make your Radar Detector go BOOP BOOP when its aimed and fired at your car.

I find it hilarious they even make laser detectors as an option because its basically to let you know you are "****ed" and to pull over.

Which is a good place to set up a trap to catch speeders.

Well I dont like speed limits either but I obey them when im in town. Speeding belongs out of the highway. I speed when I get on highways so im guilty.

But if you speed all the time be prepared to get speeding tickets. I dont like seeing people ***** about getting tickets intown for speeding when they know the law.
