You could always go the hard way that I broke myself of always having to be on, but then I still spend a large amount of time. But anyways After getting hit with a $500 internet bill (back in 1996 when the internet wasnt totally prevalent and some places you had to pay per minute on dial up), knocking my girlfriend up and having no clue what I was going to do for a job I joined the U.S. Army. 8 weeks with no computer access, and then since I had a year long advanced training school where I had computer access but not internet access. After all my training I started getting back into the internet but after sleeping through Morning formation a few times and winding up losing a pay grade and having to pull extra duty. I was finally able to keep my internet usage in check(or at least managed to learn how to wake up to my alarm clock after one hour of sleep). I now no longer miss work but I still wind up sleeping through the odd date here and there.

It seems that you reconize what you have to do, as with an addiction you will not be able to overcome it unless you truely want to.

A old friend of mine once told me when i was in a rut that the it only in the hardest times that you truely get to know yourself. And see the good and the bad and what needs to be changed.

good luck, you have skills, you will find ways to use them that are more constructive and fulfilling. keep your chin up.

This has to be the gayest thing I ever read. Have you ever sucked dick for Internet access? I didn't think so...Until you get a real addiction, quit your whining. It's a matter of will power, if you don't want to **** up, then you won't. You lack discipline, it's the same w/ any other "disorder" that's out there like addiction to weed, alcoholism, or ADD. If you want to get over it, then just stop doing it.

I wasn't trying to joke around... I was being serious...

If there's something important enough to you that you would be willing to drop your addiction (Girls, Job, w/e) that may be able to help you....

Just focus on thos thing...

Good luck,

Rafster

You see, that's sad...So much time wasted on making a program three times and then hacking back through it.
Unless it's the experience that counts, you could've just gotten this instead:

It's easy: the light half shows you when it's time for bed.

I agree with migel628; it does in fact take discipline.

Also, a computer or even a TV in the bedroom is not such a good idea...
You miss out on all the action Rafster is talking about.

Good luck with your job search.

P.S.

Cool, I have the exact same house timer. Anyways, it sounds like you believe you have an addiction (it is subjective). There is nothing wrong with being on the internet forever as long as you are productive or at least not letting it get in the way of things.

What do you do on the internet? There is a chance you may be addicted to that behavior and not to the internet itself. (Gaming, pr0n, blogging...)

Perhaps you lost your job, not because of the internet, but because you lose attention. Particularly to what time it is. Maybe it would be wise to set an alarm at 2:00AM or something that you force yourself to go to bed by.

Another good idea is to break your 15 hour eye-straining, arthritis enducing, ***-soring session into several sessions no longer than, lets say. 3 hours. Chances are you will find something else to do while you are away from the computer and you may get distracted with that instead.

Anyways, just some ideas.

Internet use has been determined to be addictive by some psychologists.
Internet Addiction Disorder.

http://www.kudzumonthly.com/kudzu/jul01/addiction.html

Much like a gambling addiction, it is a psychological rather than a phsycial addiction like drugs, cigarettes or alcohol.
Since you have admitted you have an addiction, all be it psychological, you have now begun the first parts of treatment. As with any addiction, you must 1, admit you have a problem, then 2, want to seek help.
You are now ready for the help.
I am no doctor or shrink, but let me suggest you seek the help of a professional.

Don't let others tell you you are full of ****, and don't have a problem. They are fulll of **** otherwise.

Good luck

I call bull****!!! Any addiction is a matter of will power. No one wants to take responsibility for their own actions anymore. If you know that you spend too much time on the net, then stop doing it. It's all a matter of discipline and clearly a majority of the world does not have any. Be a man, and go outside. Go work on the carpc, do something other than playing Johnny ****around on the net.

Granted, this is my opinion on subjects such as this and some will not agree, but I'll survive...

Disagree. Ever watched someone struggle with alcohol, drug, gambling, or smoking addiction? It's called an addiction precisely because the majority of people can't help themselves and it trivializes the problem when you say they just aren't 'man' enough to pull it together.

There are a lot of reasons that people become addicted to things. Granted, this one is a little weird, because most of us can pull ourselves away and stop without losing three jobs over it.

Fusion-one - seek help. If you break your leg, you go to the doctor. If you have an addiction you can't control no matter how hard you try, go see a psychiatrist -one who has a medical degree (don't know how it is up North but in the U.S. psychologists can't prescribe meds).

Lots of people don't seek psych help because it means 'something is wrong' with their head. Well, there is. You said so yourself. Go see someone about getting it fixed. You could have ADD, some kind of addictive behavior disorder, or who knows what. Sometimes these things come from a chemical imbalance in your brain.

If you don't have any of those things, great. Get to work on your willpower.
