I dunno guys.........gimme ur input
IM thinking about just getting out of the whole carputer thing...i dunno...its sweet but it seems like the project is never done...and recently ive been yearning for that stock dash look and im thinking about just getting a flip out touschreen unit like a kenwood or something and just put a music keg or an ipod on it for my music...i never use the internet in my car...i barely use gps...and when i do the damn thing never works right...and i barely ever watch videos...i dont have a dvd player in...the only thing keeping me together is the 8 inch screen...its so huge...and i love the mobile impact front end...i sat in a 2006 acura tl today and it had a sweet *** stock navigation system...i wish i had something like that instead of a carputer....i dunno what do you guys think? plus i put 2 mini fans in my computer and it still gets hot as hell..im thinking about either getting rid of the whole thing...or just getting an ampie case or something and throwing it under the back seat...lash out all u want...lemme know whats on ur minds!

Thats the thing about these: its a hobby. If you don't want it as a hobby then go for one that you can pull out of the box and install. I enjoy playing with it, I like that I can upgrade it how I see fit, I like that the software is always evolving and adding new features. I also use mine mostly for video though. If you just play music then you don't need what a carPC can offer you.

I'm sort of in the same position, I enjoyed building it and troubleshooting it, but now I am just sort of bored with it, and would rather use something simpler (and easier to read durring the day) and start a new project.

Seems like the best choice would be to fix whatever is wrong with the current system, then leave it. Quit upgrading it and it should stay stable. Then you have the best of both worlds... you still have your carPC, and you don't have to fuss with it much...

I did a simple install and it worked good for a year or two - I used
a dell desktop - and it just went dead a week ago - I am going to
use a laptop this time - and even make a tank tank circuit using
an UPS battery - for short run times with the motor off, the laptop
battery is dead,
but when it was set up - it worked good - no real problems
- just try to simplifie it
