I can't believe the guy on the bike was only going 131 too!
There's no way a Hyundai would be able to go that fast, no way would I believe it

A Sonata is basically the same car as my Kia Optima was. Same motor, same interior, pretty much the same everything but body panels. It won't go 147 stock (I am assuming that a rental car would probably be stock). Trust me. I know. It will go well over 100, but not 147.

There is no way to get that car that fast unless you drive it off a cliff (where it belongs).

Perhaps he was going downhill with the secret gear of "I think I can" with a hurricane blowing behind him and a set of horses pulling. THEN, Yeah, Id believe it.
Next question that comes to mind, WHY rent a Hyundai anyway?

A Sonata with a 6cyl with a few performance mods and/or a new chip could probably do 147.
Not with a 4cyl, though.

BTW, I brought my Supra to about 120 - 125 once for about 2miles on I5 at around mid night to test it ability when I just bought the car. I'll never try that again. The car become a little unstable at over 120.
Yup the car is bone stock and only has 68K miles at the time 220HP 5Sp Turbo and top speed at 160MHP with 4 Michelin Pilot Rate Z shoes.
There is NO WAY a Sonata can do 140.

Actually, a Sonata is considered mid-size. They can be quite plush with the right options, although it's still a Hyndai. In the IRC channel, we've deduced that the Sonata must have a 2.7l v6. It's the only way it could get close to the 147mph he was clocked at.
