pulled over tonight

i was just pulled over, i think from profiling my car

my passangers (g/f and her brother) were told to put their hands up where they could be seen. i was told to get out of the car, was patted down, and told to sit in the unmarked car.

the detective went back to my car, and talked to the passagers, ask my g/f about the screen upfront(which i turned off when i was pulled over(but not before starting my gps screen so it would be on top)) she said it was some kind of computer thing, the cop said it needed to be moved to the back seat(which i did check nc law a while back and as long as it is a static display it CAN be in view of the driver.

they were also asked about drugs and guns, if they had any or where on anything.

when he came back to the unmarked car where i was sitting. he asked me about drugs/guns, and told me my tint was illiegal(it is), and that my green underglows are illiegal on road(yet a sherif told me they were fine as long as they are not red/blue/purple) and that my inspection was expired(did not know this, never really paid attention to it)

never once did he ask me about the electronics tho...

i have 10 days to fix all items sited on the warning ticket(lights/tint/inspection) and bring the car to the PD to be checked for compliance..

anyone have any ideas(harassment suit for profiling me as a drug user/dealer?)

obiously i will fix the errors, but is there any retaliationi that i can take?

edit: i live in elizabeth city, north carolina

but u wanted attention and you got some????
haha

ive been pulled over cuz my car looks like a lil gangster car, he said it was cuz plate light was too dim (bs). just got luck i was white (part mexican tho) and he just let me go no real hassle.

but i dont think u would have any luck with the suit.

Well..can't say anything about the drugs/guns those are just normal questions that police officers ask. As for the green lights they got to go. Can't have them on according to NC law while the vehicle is on the road. In a parking lot they are ok....but with lights under your car, tint too dark and an out of date inspection you might as well paint your car hunter orange and go 90 in a school zone...you're just aking for a ticket. Luckly those should just compliance issues and "most" courts will dismiss them.

As for the screen up front...check other patrol cars. My brother's (NCSHP) is mounted right up front, but that has nothing to do with lights, tint or inspection.

Profiling your car. What does that mean, they pulled you over because of the type of car you drive? So, do they pull over every "X" make and model car (the same as yours). Do you think there is something wrong with pulling you over for the type of car you drive? What do you think was "wrong" about what the cops did, and why do you think it is wrong?

So, what type of retaliation are you thinking of?

Reading your article, I came to my mind that I have not the slightest clue what the law says about here in Europe / Luxembourg?

I just send an email with a request for further detail to our national Automobile Service (ACL). Anyone knows about general legislation here in central/western Europe?

put an on/off switch on the lighting under the car, so they can be off when your driving. the tint, welll nothign you can do about that. mine is illegal also, i just roll down the windows whenever a cops around. the registration, well youll have to take care of that.

as for the screen in the front. as long as your not watching a movie while your driving there really isnt **** they can do. almost all manufactures are selling models with gps systems in them. which is a 7 inch lcd display. as long as its your radio/gps they cant say anything.

That's the American way.... we're the only country that the McDonald's coffee incident could have happened in....

Tint - http://www.ncleg.net/enactedlegislat...gs_20-127.html

Lights - http://www.ncleg.net/enactedlegislat...gs_20-130.html (What statute is on your ticket?)
Law only states, red for fire; blue for police; purple for funeral; no white at rear, unless in reverse; amber lights.

TV/Screens - http://www.ncleg.net/enactedlegislat..._20-136.1.html (Notice it only talks about broadcast TV, nothing about NAV, computers, DVD, etc. It is the only law on the books about "screens")

Haha, at least you don't live in such a small town that all the cops know you on a first name basis...

One time I had a cop follow me along the 3 mile stretch of road in my town, and I accidently touched (not crossed) the yellow line on a turn and he pulls me over. Searches my car, looks in my trunk, under the seats, all kinds of stuff. I guess someone started some gossip that I started selling green.

Another occasion, I got pulled over for a cracked windshield, searched my car, detained me for almost an hour, called in the car to see if it was stolen (even though the reg was in my name!?), then wrote me up for cracked windshield, excessive display of power (in a mercury 4 cylinder?), and careless driving. When I questioned the careless driving, he said I was driving too fast for conditions... hmm... sunny day, no wind, clear sky, oh well. And the excessive display of power, I guess I got up to 35 too quickly. Guess they wanted to get me for whatever they could.

And another time, cop comes up behind me, and I'm getting ready to turn right at a red light. Of course you're supposed to stop, check then turn if it's red. Anyway, he comes up behind me, flips on his lights and siren, so I turned right without completely stopping and pulled off the road so he could get by. So what does the *** hole do? Gives me a ticket for failure to obey traffic signal. Yay for me.

The cops around here hate me, and being a small town, have nothing better to do. They do this to all the young dudes around here. Of course I gave them good reason from my younger dumber years. Payin for it now though...

Yep...been there. Lived in a small community growing up. We didn't even have a blinking light. Got pulled over on my 17th birthday by the State police...wasn't too bad until my dad passed me while I was pulled over. Then flipped a U in the road. I got it when I got home....Better from dad than the State I suppose.
