Average time till DP closes a thread
Wow, all of a sudden there are a whole bunch of closed threads. Looks good to me. Anyone know the average currently.
Now, if he could only ban that mustang guy, he keeps posting idiotic simple questions.

It may be good to stop the stupid questions, but trying not to offend the mighty moderator, some threads were closed because of some stupid people, yet the discussion was not yet over.
For example, this thread. Some guy had a legit opinion. Red pointed out he downloaded the software he was having trouble with, and another said he was an idiot for downloading. Then DP shut it down... Sad.
I realize no warez, but they weren't advocating it, they were telling him how he should pay for it, not d/l it.
Seems like someone is pretty trigger happy with the "Close Thread" button!
Hope I don't find myself being attack by an angry mob tomorrow!

Actually I would have done the same. He admitted to using pirated software and is looking for help here. It would be advocating warez, by trying to help him get the pirated software working.

Nobody was trying to help him do that, maybe I missed something. I thought everybody was just trying to figure out a good looking GPS software, at least I was. Oh well, I have very little sleep in me now so I could be delerious...

Well DP could have deleted the posts discussing warez, but it was probably just easier to lock the thread.

my 2c.
I would rather see a thread closed or deleted and the board not face possible legal action than letting some idiot get our forums closed down. Where would I waste all of my spare time? If you want to talk about warez fine, just don't do it here.
I have my own view on of warez, but that is another topic.

It's a simple matter of keeping these forums alive & kicking, as it is the primary resource of information about this hobby. The forums are run by a business that could get in serious legal troubles for promoting, selling or supporting illegal software.
I, too, have my own views on pirated software, file sharing and sotware companies. My views have nothing to do with this. It's policing the community as a whole and takeing steps to keep the community healthy.

It's unfortunate that the discussion strayed the way it did. The OnCourse software is a new player in the GPS nav market, it appears.
Here's a compromise. I reopened the thread and deleted all the posts discussing the illegal software. That way, the original discussion can continue, as it certainly does appear valid and worthwhile.

Why just close or delete a thread? Thats not fair to those who contributed.
Closing a thread would only offend the others who genuinely contributed, yet the info about pirating the software would still be there. That aint exactly gonna do any good to the community.
Deleting a thread will loose the infos that others may find useful.
Sound like the lazy way of resolving a problem in my opinion.
A good mod should read, understand and delete any inappropriate post. If necessary post a warning message before doing so.

Its not a compromise, thats how it should be at the first place.
The closing of that thread made everyone stop contributing.

Try dong that with 30k+ members, and a few hundred new members each day... plus the people that are on here right now as mods, probably dont et paid for it, so they have to have some sort of life outside the mp3car world...lol... give them a brake...if they hire someone to just police, and nothing else all day, than yeah, your point is valid... Bt i don't see that happening...

Bull****.
When I re-opened it, the discussion continued like it was never closed. The thread was closed for a few hours in the middle of a weekday. The vast majority of members probably never realized it was ever closed.
Ideally, the mods (myself included) should read every thread in its entirety. That's not practical, though. We all have lives outside mp3car.com to attend to. You think you'd do a better job, then cnvince the powers that be to make you a mod.

No thanks, then I would get reported threads sent to myself.
